The Angels announced today that relief pitcher Reynaldo López is being placed on the bereavement list.

The bereavement list is for players that must excuse themselves for a few days because of death or serious illness in their family. The time away from the team can last from three to seven games but does not need to be specified.

Many fans have quickly sent their best wishes during his time away from the team.

Being acquired in conjunction with Lucas Giolito from the Chicago White Sox, López has not been in Anaheim long, but his impact has already been felt by the team.

In five appearances for his new ballclub, he has pitched five innings allowing only one solo shot home run and three hits. The 1.80 ERA for the team is accompanied by a very good nine strikeouts in his 20 batters faced already.

The Angels are currently 56-56 and are six games back from the last Wild Card spot after going all in at the deadline this year wanting to prove to Shohei Ohtani that the team can win games in October.

While López is away from the team, the Halos will have to rely on other relief arms like trade deadline addition, Dominic Leone, and 2023 All-Star, Carlos Estévez to help the Angels win games out of the bullpen as the starting rotation struggles.

Based on the time frame the bereavement list allows, fans might expect López to return to the team during their series with the Astros or Rangers.
