Kaya Scodelario has grown up in the spotlight after shooting to fame playing Effy Stonem in E4's Skins.

The half-Brazilian actress, who is now starring in Guy Ritchie's new drama, The Gentlemen, has a host of Hollywood hits under her belt as she carves out a enviable career.

The mum-of-two, who auditioned for Skins, aged 14, with no acting experience in 2006, has come a long way from the iconic teen drama for which she won two Golden Nymph nominations. So, as we watch her action in Guy's new Netflix offering, here's the lowdown on the talented actress.

Real age

Having shot to fame on Skins aged 14, many fans are still shocked to find out that Kaya, born Kaya Rose Humphrey, is now 32. She's come a long way since the E4 drama; getting married, having two children, bagging a host of big film roles and also starring in Robbie William's music video, Candy.

She recently opened up about her "light and easy" beauty regime, telling Vogue magazine she prefers a 'less is more' approach, particularly when she is travelling between London and LA.

Horror at filming Skins aged 14

In 2006, at the age of 14 and with no acting experience, Kaya was cast in the first series of Skins as Effy. At the auditions, she reportedly became discouraged as she felt she was too young, but a producer told her to stay and she was asked to read for the part.

While her role in the first series of the Bristol-based show had minimal speaking lines, Effy developed considerably during the second series, culminating in a very racy scene in which the teen rips her clothes off and sleeps with Dom, played by Craig Roberts, on the floor in season 7.

Speaking about her time on set of the iconic series, Kaya told Grazia magazine: "I had a completely normal experience. When we started Skins, none of us were actors, we were all just kids; we didn’t think it was going to get past one series, let alone be as big as it has been. So we all just had a really good time, we’re still all friends now because of it."

However, alluding to the content of some of the more saucy scenes, she added: "I think growing up in London, you grow up a lot quicker than people think, and I mean, even now, I look back and I think, ‘Oh God I Was 14…’ and it sounds young to me, but I didn’t feel young."

Husband split

Kaya and her husband Ben Walker announced they had split up after eight years together earlier this year. The couple tied the knot in December 2015 and went on to welcome two children together.

Kaya started dating Ben during the filming of The King's Daughter in early 2014, with the two getting engaged at the end of the same year. Both decided to adopt the joint surname Scodelario-Davis (his full name is Benjamin Walker Davis) before welcoming their first child, a son, who was born in November 2016 - and whose godfather is Kaya's Skin's co-star Daniel Kaluuya. At the end of December 2022, the actress welcomed her second child with Ben - a daughter.

In February, the proud parents made the decision to go their separate ways. Announcing their split in a joint statement, they said: "Some time ago Kaya and Ben made the joint decision to end their marriage but continue to co-parent lovingly whilst remaining the best of friends."

They continued: “They ask that their privacy as well as that of their children remain respected as they continue to move forward as a family.” Kaya and Ben haven't made any public appearances together in more than a year, with the Skins star choosing to keep her private life away from her social media pages.
