Creating a human being with your body is no easy feat, but Gal Gadot says she made the decision to hide her pregnancy while filming Wonder Woman so that she wouldn't be treated any differently on set, according to Marie Claire.
In the magazine's June 2017 cover story, the actress opened up about the time she spent vomiting in corners and coping with hormone-induced migraines while making the record-breaking superhero film. "I gutted it out. I started to come to set with sunglasses," Gadot said. "I had this jug of water with huge pieces of ginger. One of the producers kept on asking, 'Why are you drinking that potato water?' They thought I'd gone Hollywood."
But the 32-year-old has decidedly not "gone Hollywood." She told Marie Claire, "When I moved here, I was told that to make it, I should go to parties and clubs. That's bullshit. You book your job because you do the work, not because you go out and mingle." Her thoroughly nondiva behavior is further accentuated by the fact that she has worn sensible, "more comfortable" flats throughout the Wonder Woman premiere and press tour and by her unabashed, genuine excitement about the movie and its feminist undertones.
Gadot previously revealed that she filmed reshoots for the action-heavy movie while five months pregnant with second daughter Maya, who was born in March. (Her older daughter, Alma, is five.) In April she told Entertainment Weekly about fitting into the iconic armor while sporting a growing baby bump. "On close-up I looked very much like Wonder Woman," she said. "On wide shots, I looked very funny, like Wonder Woman pregnant with Kermit the Frog," because the costume department covered her bump with a bright green fabric that could be digitally altered in postproduction.
Thanks in large part to Gadot's all-around badassery, Wonder Woman has shattered multiple records since opening last weekend. Its opening weekend set a new box office record for a female-directed film, earning more than $100 million in the U.S. and $122 million internationally. On Thursday Twitter announced that Wonder Woman is the most-tweeted-about movie of 2017, beating out La La Land and Beauty and the Beast. The film has also been "certified fresh" by Rotten Tomatoes, with a 92 percent positive rating from critics and moviegoers alike. Wonder-ous, indeed.
