Ruben Neves performing well enough 'to be at Liverpool' after stunning promotion campaign with Wolves

The Portuguese midfielder has been the star of the Championship this season

Premier League Golden Boot race

Ruben Neves' form for promoted Wolverhampton Wanders is good enough to play for Liverpool, according to Stan Collymore.

The Portuguese midfielder has been the star of the Championship this season following his surprise £15.8million move from Porto last summer.

Wolves are financially backed by the Chinese conglomerate group Fosun International and enjoy close ties with agent Jorge Mendes, with the Midlands' star-studded squad the standout team in this season's second tier.

Neves and his team-mates confirmed their place in next year's Premier League with victory over Birmingham on Sunday.

And such is the impact the 21-year-old in his first season of English football, former Anfield striker Collymore could see him running out for the Reds.

"Not only can Wolves stay up in the Premier League next season but they could do it with the team they've got now," Collymore said in the Mirror. "Their technical ability is exceptional and in Ruben Neves, who is only 21, they have a player who could be a superstar.

"I could see him being at Liverpool now.

"They have the money and contracts to not just be a bottom-half side, saying 'let's stay in the Premier League' but one that could finish somewhere between ninth and 12th place.
