The Complete Klasse Car Wax Guide – How To Use Klasse Products (The Right Way!)

Klasse All-In-One and Sealant Glaze Car Wax and Polish

I probably don’t need to convince you that Klasse All-In-One and Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze are among the very best car care products on the planet.

Klasse All-In-One and High Gloss Sealant Glaze
Klasse All-In-One and High Gloss Sealant Glaze (aka “Klasse Twins”) rank high among the best car wax products ever made.

It’s pretty obvious.

For me, the Klasse brand is a personal favorite. As sort of a tribute, I had to make a guide.

Since 1986, I’ve used and tested Klasse products in every imaginable combination and with a huge selection of polishes, applicators, towels, buffing pads, bonnets, drying towels and more.

I especially like them for ease-of-use. The superior protection and consistently amazing results don’t discourage me either.

My friends…

You’ll get the deepest, darkest and wettest-looking shines possible!

Do you already use Klasse car wax products, or intend to use them?

This guide is for you!

But first, I need to clarify something:

How you prepare, polish and generally care for your paint can’t be overlooked.

These aspects are arguably more important than any chemical treatment (e.g., polish and wax) when it comes to final results.

What you’ll find here:

My personal notes about what works with Klasse and what does not.

I promise that these recommendations will enhance your experience.

What is Klasse?

Let’s start out with some background.

Klasse is a synthetic car wax (paint sealant).

It’s the original two-step paint care system. The first formulation was released way back in 1969.

To say this polyethylene-based carnauba wax replacement system was a breakthrough is an understatement.

Fast forward to today and Klasse has evolved. There have been many improvements…

The Evolution

The first major change came in 1986. Klasse was modified from its original formula to the latest polyethylene compound technology.

In the 1990’s, chemists made incremental changes. Durability improved by 30+ percent and UV protection doubled.

All-In-One & Sealant Glaze

There are, of course, two products in the Klasse system.

  • Klasse All-In-One – a combination cleaner and sealant in one, hence the name.
  • Sealant Glaze – a pure sealant (no cleaning or polishing properties).
Amazing Klasse Paint Finish Restoration
This pictures shows what an amazing difference Klasse can make on a badly oxidized paint finish. Just think what it can do for your car!

Klasse All-In-One is intended as a seasonal cleaner-wax. It’s a sort of pre-step to Klasse Sealant Glaze.

Is your paint is in new or like-new condition?

Good news! Klasse All-In-One will help you keep it that way.

To be clear, here’s the main distinction between the two products…

Klasse Sealant Glaze provides additional sealant protection and ALSO a deeper, high gloss finish.

One reason why it’s so great is this:

As a pure sealant, multiple coats of Klasse Sealant Glaze can be applied to improve upon a final finish.

Bottom Line: Both products are extremely useful for car enthusiasts.

Remove Paint Scratches before applying Klasse
Klasse alone cannot remove heavy paint damage like this. How to fix this damaged paint finish? First, polish with Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound and then follow with the Klasse Twins.

Paint Preparation

This part is so key. It cannot be skipped!

The first step in any car detailing program is a thorough washing.

Wash your car with a quality shampoo & conditioner soap.

Then, inspect the paint for contamination, scratches, swirl marks and other defects.

Find any paint problems? Now is the time to correct them.

What you have to understand is this:

Klasse AIO’s cleaning ability is mostly chemical, not abrasive.

The polishing ability of Klasse AIO is very slight. Sure, it will remove fine swirl marks and minor stains as well as barely noticeable oxidation.

But abrasive abilities aren’t really one of Klasse’s strong points.

Is this your intent?

Before Klasse AIO, I suggest a magic detailing clay bar cleaner to remove surface contamination with ease.

Head to the Clay Bar Detailing page for more info on detailing clay.

OK, so you’ve cleaned the surface of your paint with a clay bar.

Still see some scratches or swirl marks?

You should polish!

I recommend Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound (proven micro-abrasive technology).

You can apply Ultimate Compound by hand or machine. Of course, it’s best used with a dual-action polisher (such as the iconic Porter Cable 7424XP).

You are ready to start once paint defects are gone. Polish with Klasse All-In-One for an amazing shine!

Proper Application of Klasse All-In-One

Applying Klasse AIO by hand is easy!
Klasse AIO is easy to apply by hand. Still, a car polisher is best for the highest gloss and most shine possible. Only when applied by machine is Klasse AIO a decent swirl remover.

A quick word about frequency of use…

Applying Klasse All-In-One (AIO) twice a year is normally sufficient to maintain good paint.

Wait!

This assumes you wash regularly and garage your car.

On to the process…

You’ll be happy to know that Klasse All-In-One is a pretty easy application.

Klasse Sealant Glaze, on the other hand, must be applied as a very thin coating. (More about that later).

I use a microfiber applicator for Klasse AIO hand application.

Microfiber offers a bit more punch for removing fine swirl marks and water spots. It really brings up the shine.

Please, please, please work on a single panel at a time!

I recommend applying a dime size dab of Klasse All-In-One to your applicator.

Work it in well. Polish until the film is nearly gone.

Allow Klasse All-In-One to haze for just a moment. Then, buff off with a microfiber buffing towel.

What to do if your paint finish isn’t as polished as you’d like?

Simply apply Klasse All-In-One again! This will remove the minor swirls holdouts and further improve gloss.

Finally, give your car’s paint a quick wipe down with a quality detail spray.

Necessary?

Yes! This will remove any remaining polish residue. It also makes Klasse Sealant Glaze application much easier.

Proper Application of Klasse Sealant Glaze

Klasse Sealant Glaze by Machine
By hand or machine, Klasse Sealant Glaze is super easy to apply IF used very sparingly.

Klasse Sealant Glaze is very finicky about proper application.

The reason?

Guys, the product is as strong as iron.

Put it on heavily (like a paste wax) and it will be very difficult to wipe off.

So, I repeat:

Klasse Sealant Glaze must be applied in a very thin layer or it will be difficult to remove.

The proper film application thickness for Klasse Sealant Glaze is  “whisper thin”.

Translation:

There should be little film to remove.

For some help, I highly recommend a microfiber applicator pad.

It evenly distributes making your job easier.

Prep Before Starting

Moisten your applicator with a small amount of an awesome detail spray.

One or two sprays is plenty.

Why do this?

A quick detailer assists with a thin application of Sealant Glaze.

Greatness Begins

Now you can apply Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze to the entire car.

Do not wipe off until it is dry!

Use no more than a dime-size dab at a time.

Work it in well. Remember, rub the Klasse Sealant Glaze in until only a whisper of film remains.

Allow the Klasse Sealant Glaze film to dry for about 30 minutes.

What’s next?

Begin buffing off where you started your application once you’ve finished applying it.

Relax!

Allowing Sealant Glaze to dry longer WILL NOT make it easier or more difficult to buff off.

Pro Tip: For best results, buff off Klasse Sealant Glaze with a quality microfiber buffing towel.

Another Pro Tip: Use, once again, a bit of quick detailing spray to assist with removal IF you’ve applied Klasse Sealant Glaze to heavily.

Applying Klasse w/ a Dual-Action Car Polisher

Applying Meguiar's Ultimate Compound by Machine
Use Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound (before applying Klasse) to remove heavy scratches and swirl marks.

Do you have a car polisher?

You’re in luck!

Using a dual-action machine, such as the Porter Cable 7424XP, together with Klasse All-In-One will result in an even more beautiful finish.

You also won’t break a sweat!

Let me be clear:

Klasse All-In-One will remove more imperfections when an electric polisher does the job.

There’s no doubt about it. Machine application of Klasse All-In-One creates a highly polished look.

Specifically, I recommend a 6.5″ foam polishing pad.

Meguiar’s Soft Buff Foam Polishing Pad works exceptionally well with AIO.

For Additional Finish Improvement

Of course, for more than moderate swirl marks and water spots, you’ll need a polish with more bite than Klasse All-In-One.

Again, it’s not that abrasive.

Go with Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound if you don’t have a particular favorite.

Sometimes (in different lighting) you’ll see new swirl marks or a noticeably dull, oxidized finish.

If so, turn to your Soft Buff Foam Cutting Pad in combination with the Ultimate Compound.

Here’s the thing…

You’ll need to make a 2nd pass using the foam polishing pad. That should completely remove fine surface defects.

How to Maintain the Klasse Shine & Protection

Maintain Your Klasse Shine with a Klasse Boosted Detail Spray & Wax
This beautiful shine is kept intact with a Klasse (Boosted) Quick Detailer!

I should tell you…

Years ago, I created a product called Sonus High Gloss Acrylic Spritz.

It was a nice detailing spray. Actually, there’s a small amount of Klasse Sealant Glaze mixed in.

I got the idea after playing around with Klasse and Meguiar’s Quik Detailer Mist & Wipe.

Let me tell you, it works great!

It got to the point where I was adding 20% Klasse Sealant Glaze to make a killer spray wax.

With it I could wax my whole car (after washing) in less than 10 minutes.

Eventually I released the amped up version: Sonus Acrylic Glanz.

Save some money. You can make your own!

It’s quick and painless.

You’ll just need a small funnel, measuring cups and spoons from the kitchen (don’t worry, Klasse is water soluble and cleans up with soap and water).

The Secret Revealed:

To make your own special Klasse Detailing Spray, add one tablespoon of the Sealant Glaze for every 8 oz. of Meguiar’s Quik Detailer.

Shake well for 30 seconds. Use as you would any other detailing spray.

To make your Klasse Spray Wax, add 1/4 cup of Klasse Sealant Glaze for every 8 oz. of Meguiar’s Quik Detailer.

Again, shake well for 30 seconds.

Be sure to pour off the same amount of Quik Detailer before adding the Klasse. Otherwise, you may overflow the bottle.

Apply to a clean vehicle using a microfiber towel (spray the towel, not the car!).

Used weekly, I’ve been able to extend my Klasse shine and protection up to a full year. It’s so easy!

Klasse User’s Guide Summary

Let’s sum up. The proper steps for a complete Klasse detail are as follows:

  • Wash to remove dirt and road grime.
  • Clay (if necessary) to remedy any bonded contamination.
  • Polish with Klasse All-In-One to restore full paint gloss.
  • Maintain the high gloss with your home-made Klasse Spray Wax (optional).

Klasse car wax products are such a critical component for maintaining beautiful, show car quality paint. Good luck!
