Rooney Mara is the quintessential brunette, or should we say was the quintessential brunette. Maybe it’s simply because of her breakout role as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but the actress always seemed inextricably linked with her dark locks, super fair skin, and brooding gaze. But now, prepare yourself to rethink everything you thought you knew about Rooney because she just went full blown “Daenerys Targaryen” white blonde.

Mara went for a stroll in New York City on Friday showcasing her new summer hair vibes. The actress paired her new fully white blonde shoulder-length locks with an equally grunge-inspired ensemble, playing up the rock and roll feel of her new do with a baggy concert tee, unusual jean jacket, and clear-framed sunnies.

Clearly there’s peroxide fumes in the air after Taylor Swift dyed her hair a matching hue of blonde last month at Coachella, going goth ice princess glam just in time for her role as host of the Met Gala, and now Rooney has followed suit. Perhaps the actress will pull a reverse Tay and give her wardrobe a preppy, matching set makeover. In any case, it seems clear that this is destined to be the summer of surprise bleach blonde makeovers. Prepare yourselves accordingly.
