HOTEL PRINCIPE DI SAVOIA

The Dorchester Collection just unveiled the next in its series of private walking trails, designed exclusively for guests to follow in the footsteps of legendary artists.

Ever dreamed of walking on the same paths as your favorite artist? Now you can. The Dorchester Collection, the hotel group behind the iconic Hotel Principe Di Savoia, in Milan, just unveiled their newest private walking trail, allowing guests to discover the story of Lucio Fontana’s groundbreaking art through the Fontana – Slashing Space trail. The program follows on from Picasso’s Montmartre, Monet’s Revolutionary Brushstrokes, and Rodin’s Love and Torment guides, available at Dorchester Collection’s Le Meurice in Paris, Rebel and Rome at Hotel Eden in Rome, and Hepworth’s Rhythm & Form at 45 Park Lane in London.

“Building on the excitement of our Legendary Artists’ trails, we’re delighted to announce Fontana – Slashing Space as the first of our trails in Milan at Hotel Principe di Savoia,” says Helen Smith, CEO of Dorchester Collection. “We were inspired by the indelible impact Fontana made on the art world, from Paris to London, Tokyo to New York, along with a slew of exhibitions worldwide – kickstarting the Spatialist movement. He truly reached for the stars, and Milan proved to be a perfect launchpad for his artistic journey. This wonderfully unique experience gives our guests the chance to get to know the man behind the movement.”

The adventure begins at Hotel Principe di Savoia, with its rooftop terrace overlooking the city, and plunges you into the very heart of Milan. From the nearby Brera district – home to the prestigious Arts Academy where he studied, to the courtyard of his legendary studio, now home to a contemporary art gallery, and even the Duomo, where its lace-like Gothic design complements Fontana’s glorious ‘Neon structure’, suspended on the top floor of the adjacent Museo del Novecento.

With lively dialogue in the company of an experienced art-historian guide and modern art specialist, one-on-one or as part of a small, private group, guests will be able to pause and enjoy the beauty of Milan, uncover hidden details that regular Milanese might overlook, as well as absorb thrilling anecdotes about the artist’s life and career, which will remain with them long after their stay. Each itinerary will be adapted, so that the trails are able to cater for Milan intrepid explorers who wish to refine their knowledge, as well as novices who may have visited but never delved deeper. The Fontana – Slashing Space experience is available now from €710 per night in a Classic Room, including daily breakfast and a two-hour expert guided tour.
