After establishing her acting career in the ‘90s (and becoming a global icon for rom-com culture along the way), Kate Hudson decided to step into the world of wellness.

Today, she has three businesses—Fabletics, King St. Vodka, and INBLOOM. She shook up the fitness world when founding Fabletics, her membership-bound apparel brand, back in 2013.

And her most recent business venture is also health-themed. INBLOOM, launched in 2020, is her line of powders that can be mixed into drinks and other recipes. (It's also available on Rakuten, the shopping platform with which she's partnered.)

Transparency is of the utmost importance to Kate, whether it’s with the ingredients in her INBLOOM blends, or while talking about how she applies wellness in her own life. But let’s get one thing straight: her health is a priority.

For instance, she’s always changing up her workouts to avoid mundane feels about exercising. “I love doing different things with my body,” she tells Women’s Health.

Kate switches up her workouts pretty consistently.

“I'm all over the place,” the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star says. “I just get bored.” (I felt that.)

But some of her go-to workouts are dancing, Pilates, yoga, and Tracy Anderson programs. “When I'm doing that, my body kind of goes back to where it likes to be,” she says. “I know how my muscle memory works the best.” She also enjoys running and being outside.

But recently, she’s been using Tonal, the all-encompassing digital weight machine you can use at home. “I love it—you could do 20 minutes, it's not a lot of stuff, it's very clever,” she says.

And it’s been helpful to more people than just Kate: “My son loves it too, it got Ryder working out,” she says of her 18-year-old. “Now he’ll go to the gym, like, he's in it.”

These days, she’s getting into functional training.

Functional training is a type of training involving prepping your body for movements you'll experience in everyday life, like pushing, twisting, and bending. She’s appreciating the different feel of it, especially at this point in her life. “As you get older, building a little more muscle is nice,” she adds.

A move she’s enjoying right now? Squats. “They did all this research on leg strength and brain health,” she says. “Actual strength in your legs is directly correlated to your brain health.”

And she’s absolutely right. A 2018 Journal of Lifestyle Medicine study using data from 1999-2002 of 1,508 adults between 60 and 85 years old showed that more lower extremity strength (yes, your legs) correlates to higher cognitive performance, among other things.

Basically, it’s a double whammy for your bod and brain. Yes, please.

Kate prioritizes workouts and wellness during the holidays.

Even though the holiday season is usually one of the busiest times of year, for Kate, it’s when she has the most time to focus on her health.

“Holidays, for me, aren't like, ‘Ooh, I have an opportunity to like sit on my butt.’ I'm not like that as a person. It's actually an opportunity,” she says. Kate specifically cites having time for meditations, workouts, and sauna sessions that she usually has trouble fitting all in one day during the rest of the year.

And of course, focusing on her wellness means spending time with family, too. “I kinda take my holidays as a time for me to just put all of my work stuff aside and really just focus on my family, having fun.”

She’s excited for people to see her new film, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, in theaters.

Kate plays Birdie Jay, a supermodel-turned-designer in the sequel to the 2019 film, Knives Out. It will be in theaters starting on Nov. 23 for one week only. (The film will drop on Netflix Dec. 23.)

She wants audiences to view it in theaters, though.

“It’s so much fun,” she says. “It’s such a theater-going experience.” I mean, where better to experience a whodunnit story?

Each time she rewatches it, it’s a different experience.

“I keep seeing all new things,” she adds. “There's so many Easter eggs in this movie that even when you know what's going on, you're still so excited to rewatch it.”

It’s totally a movie event to make a point to see, she says: “It's just so nice to have a different kind of movie that's not necessarily of the Marvel Universe or DC, that's not a Comic Con type, but that is something different, and for groups of people to enjoy together. You're gonna love it.”
