Elle Fanning knows the power of a big red carpet arrival. Never forget the New Look-style Dior skirt and hat she wore at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019 that instantly went viral. But, as the saying goes, sometimes less is more. At the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards tonight in Santa Monica—where she is nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series for her role as Catherine the Great in The Great—Fanning arrived in a Gucci waistcoat and trousers. Understated, but impactful.
While the wide-leg trousers were a refreshing break from the gowns, the nominee’s Gucci outfit was truly elevated by the mix of textures in her ensemble. The trousers were embellished with beads that gave them almost a pinstripe effect. The sheer peach blouse underneath her vest added a dash of sex appeal, as did her tousled waves. Finishing off her ensemble with both a bow tie and a Cartier pendant necklace with a pink, pear-shaped stone, Fanning looked like Marlene Dietrich plopped into the 21st century. As they say in The Great, “huzzah!”
