President Bola Tinubu and the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, mourned the passing of the Baba Adinni of Lagos and Chairman of the Executive Council of Lagos Central Mosque, His Eminence, Sheikh Abdul-Hafeez Ashamu.

The President, in a statement by his Media Adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, condoled with Baba’s family, the Muslim community in Lagos, as well as the Lagos State Government over this very sad loss, saying he’d be sorely missed.

Sanwo-Olu, on his part, described the death of the prominent Islamic scholar as a great loss to Lagos State, saying he’d be remembered for his sacrifice and commitment to peace and harmony.

President Tinubu, who celebrated the legacy of service, duty, and sacrifice of Baba, who passed away at 100 years old, noted his extraordinary contributions to the Muslim Ummah, Lagos State, and beyond.

“Baba dedicated his life to the service of the people. He lived a full life guided by the highest and noblest moral codes. He was a fine example for all of us.

“He will be sorely missed. We should take solace in Baba’s legacy and uphold his values of honesty, dignity, and sacrifice,” he said.

The President prayed that Almighty Allah to grant Baba the highest station in Al-Jannah Firdaus.

The Lagos State governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, also said the late Baba Adinni of Lagos lived an exemplary life of dedication to the cause of peace and harmony in the State.

“It is sad that we lost Baba Sheikh Abou at a time, when his elderly counsel and guidance were needed more in our dear state.

“But we are consoled by the good life that Baba lived, the legacy that he left behind and more importantly, we are guided by the Holy Quran Chapter 2 Verse 156, which says ‘Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we return.’

“On behalf of the people and Government of Lagos State, I commiserate with the immediate family, friends, associates and the entire Muslim Ummah of Lagos over the passing of elder statesman and religious leader, Sheikh Abdul Hafeez Abou, who passed away peacefully at the age of 100 years.

“The late Sheikh Abou would be remembered for his great sacrifice and commitment to the cause of peace, harmony and moral development of our people.

“I pray that Allah grants the repose of the late Sheikh Abou Aljannah Firdaus, and grant the deceased family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
