Experts have long suggested that you can’t run your way out of a bad diet, but it appears you can eat your way to better fitness: a study has found that a good diet delivers a boost equivalent to walking thousands of extra steps a day.

Research involving more than 2,000 middle-aged adults in the United States found those with high-quality diets fared best on a fitness test, even after accounting for their usual exercise routines.
