Alzheimer’s won’t stop me, insists Barbara Windsor

Dame Barbara Windsor has said that she “intends to carry on” as she thanked fans for their support after it was revealed that she had Alzheimer’s.

Scott Mitchell, her husband, said last week that the Carry On actress, 80, who later starred as Peggy Mitchell in EastEnders, had the disease diagnosed in April 2014.

Windsor recorded a surprise birthday message for Jane Moore, 56, the panellist on ITV’s Loose Women who broke the story. “I want to wish you a very happy birthday, darling Jane,” she said. “Thank you, thank you so much for being a loyal and good friend and helping Scott share my recent news.

“Thank you to everyone for the lovely messages of support that I’ve been receiving. It really means
