WHEN legendary actress Barbara Windsor sadly passed away, she left behind an incredible legacy that will long live on.

During her life she was married three times, including to the late Ronnie Knight, who passed away in June 2023.

Who was Barbara Windsor?

Dame Barbara Windsor was born Barbara Ann Deeks on August 6, 1937.

She took the stage name Windsor in 1953, inspired by the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

After starting acting at an early age, Barbara came to real prominence with her portrayal of a "good time girl" in nine Carry On films.

Her first was Carry On Spying in 1964 and her final role was in Carry On Dick in 1974.

On May 10, 2018, it was confirmed that Barbara had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's back in 2014.

The actress passed away aged 83 at 8.35pm on December 10, 2020, with her devoted husband Scott Mitchell by her side.

What was Barbara Windsor known for?

Aside from the Carry On films, Barbara was best known for playing Peggy Mitchell on EastEnders from 1994.

Her beloved character was matriarch of the Mitchell family and the no-nonsense landlady of the Queen Vic, with her famous line: "Get out of my pub!"

It was a role Babara played on-and-off for 22 years.

Her last appearance aired on May 17, 2016, in a tear-jerking episode when her character took her own life after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Did Barbara Windsor have any children?

During her life, Babara didn't have any children of her own.

However, behind-the-scenes on EastEnders she was known for looking after the younger actors, and acted like their mum on set.

Paying tribute to Barbara, Lacey Turner said: "Today my heart is so sad but what you have left me with is so full of love, laughter & joy so many lovely memories!

"You gave a young me so much confidence , to watch you work was an honour."

Barbara once admitted to The Sun that she regretted having five pregnancies aborted.

She told us: “I knew it was wrong, against what you should do.”

She had her first termination aged 20 after falling pregnant to her first serious boyfriend, a little-known singer called Cliff Lawrence. Four more followed, the last aged 42.

We asked her if she regretted not having children, to which she replied: “No. I consider myself to be a warm and lovely person but I never had any maternal ­feelings.

"Neither did my mother, so that message was constantly fed to me as a child.”

Was Barbara Windsor married?

Babs was married three times, during her incredible life.

Her first husband was Ronnie Knight, and they were wed for 22 years from 1965.

Ronnie passed away in June 2023 at the age of 89.

Babs' second husband was Stephen Hollings, and they tied the knot in Jamaica in 1986 and divorced in 1995.

After this she married Scott in 2000, who she stayed together with until her death.
