'The Vampire Diaries' Cast Share Farewell Messages on Instagram

Vampire Diaries fans, prepare yourselves: Filming for the 8th and final season of the CW show wrapped in Atlanta today, and the cast is feeling just as emotional about it as you are. Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, and the rest of the gang–both on-screen and behind the scenes—have been sharing goodbye messages on social media from the various wrap parties and final sound-stage setups over the last couple of days. Their messages range from lighthearted and fun to serious and sentimental, but one thing is for sure: the show meant as much to them as it did to us. After all, eight years is a long time to work on a project together. It probably feels like high school graduation all over again for the cast and crew — only with more fake blood in their old photos.

TVD kicked off back in 2009 and was an instant hit, becoming the CW’s most popular show in its first season, and for good reason: its stories of love, loss, and friendship were pretty relatable (even with all of those werewolves running around). The show focused heavily on romance and inner strength and confidence, which are admittedly huge themes in every teenager’s life. Or rather, every person’s life.

When the show’s creators, Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, announced the decision end the series at Comic Con this summer you might remember they shared a farewell video from the cast to mark the occasion. That and, you know, immediately start watching the entire series again as soon as the season 8 finale airs on March 10th.
