The most widely distributed clownfish species, found from the Persian Gulf to Micronesia and Melanesia. Easy to spot in many snorkeling destinations, for example in Indonesia, the Great Barrier Reef, New Caledonia and Okinawa.

Hosted by all ten species of sea anemones that host anemonefish: Cryptodendrum adhaesivum, Entacmaea quadricolorHeteractis auroraHeteractis crispaHeteractis magnificaHeteractis maluMacrodactyla doreensisStichodactyla gigantea, Stichodactyla haddoni and Stichodactyla mertensii.

Often confused with Amphiprion chrysopterus and Amphiprion akindynos.
