2. Definition of Terms
Leader - a person who leads or commands a group,
organization or country.
Leadership -is the ability of an individual or group of
people to influence and guide followers or members of
an organization, society or team.
Theory - the branch of a science or art consisting of its
explanatory statements, accepted principles, and
methods of analysis, as supposed to practice.
4. Traditional Leadership Theory
Traditional leadership theory was created by Robert
House in the late 1960s. He was an American
management consultant who studied leadership
styles of various companies and developed a model
to describe their strengths and weaknesses. This
theory is based on the idea that a leader has to
have charisma, intelligence, and social skills in
order to be successful.

traditional method of appointing leaders from
the top- down bureaucracy of the institutions
without consulting its members.
• Encourages teamwork and cooperation, as
everyone is working towards the same goal.
• traditional leaders sets up rules for how
people should behave and also control over
resources, such as money, time and people.

6. ACCIDENTAL LEADERSHIP THEORY
• Accidental leaders are experts in their field with
a high level of education and experience who
were promoted into a leadership role based on
their hard work and expertise.
• They are those people that don't necessarily set
out to become leaders but through "good luck"
or "being in the right place at the right time" fall
into the role.
7. PRESTIGE LEADERSHIP THEORY
• According to this theory, the optimal form of leader-
follower relations evolved in human via a process of
reciprocal exchange that generated adaptive benefits for
both leaders and followers.
• A prestige leader influences people through their
superior personal attributes such as knowledge,
wisdom and vision. these leaders also are charismatic
and use their skill at rhetoric to win over their followers
• prestige-motivated leaders achieve their status by
displaying their knowledge and skills and convincing
people they are worth following .
