It’s hard to imagine a time when Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds weren’t together. The Hollywood power couple first started dating in 2011 after meeting on the set of Green Lantern the year before, and got married in 2012. Nothing actually happened between them while filming, as Reynolds was still married to Scarlett Johansson while Lively was dating Gossip Girl co-star Penn Badgley. After their respective relationships ended, they reportedly went on a double date with other people. However, the sparks between them couldn’t stop flying on that fateful double date; and the rest, as they say, is history.

The 36-year-old Gossip Girl alum went into detail about the early stages of her relationship with the 47-year-old Deadpool actor in an interview with Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-star Amber Tamblyn, referencing one very important ground rule they had at the start of their romance.

What Rule Did Blake Lively And Ryan Reynolds Have At The Start Of Their Relationship?

"When Ryan and I got together, we made a rule not to work at the same time so that we could always prioritize our personal life," the Age of Adaline star confessed on the February 22nd episode of Tamblyn's Substack show, Further Ado.

"That takes working really hard when we're not. Just like financial planning and sustaining that; it takes balance," the mom-of-four added, before reflecting on her very demanding Gossip Girl schedule, which she was still filming when she and the actor started dating.

"I'm used to working hard and going and going and going and going and not stopping," Lively continued. "Especially Gossip Girl was six years of my life, and we were sometimes shooting three episodes at once."

Ryan Reynolds Says: 'We Operate As A Unit'

The Red Notice actor also touched on this in an interview with People back in 2019. "Blake and I don't do movies at the same time. If she is doing a movie in Thailand and I am doing a movie in Vancouver we would just never see each other. We operate as a unit, and that works really well for us," he told the outlet at the time.

"The kids stay with us, and the family stays together, and that is where home is," Reynolds continued. "So if we are in Spain or Utah or New York, as long as we are together, we're home," he added.
