This figurine is based on clay statuettes made by the Cucuteni, a late Neolithic archaeological culture that flourished between ca. 5500-2750 BCE in the Dniester-Dnieper region of modern-day Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine. It's not known if the incised decoration represents a specialized body wrapping, drapery of clothing or body paint/tattooing. From gislebertus on etsy.
