INTRODUCTION ABOUT ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET

ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET contains Azithromycin which belongs to the group of medicines called Macrolide antibiotics. It is used to manage mild to moderate susceptible infections caused by bacteria and other micro-organisms which includes chest, throat, nasal infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, sore throat and sinusitis.

It is also used to manage ear infections and skin & soft tissue infections (such as an abscess/boil) in affected individuals which is also indicated for use to manage sexually transmitted diseases such as cervicitis (caused by organisms such as Chlamydia trachomatis/ Neisseria gonorrhoea) in affected individuals.

ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients allergic to azithromycin, other antibiotics such as erythromycin/clarithromycin (macrolides), and ketolides. It is also not recommended for use in patients with a history of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction.

Before taking ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have diabetes, myasthenia gravis (condition marked by weak muscles), heart problems, and/or kidney problems.

ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET should be used with caution during pregnancy and in women planning for pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary. It is also advised to be used with caution in breast-feeding woman as it is unknown whether the medicine gets excreted in the breast milk.

ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children weighing less than 45 kgs which is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years) after consulting the doctor.

The most common side effects of taking ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET are stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, flatulence, dizziness, headache, and/or skin rash. Consult your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

USES OF ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET

  • Manage mild to moderate susceptible infections caused by bacteria and other micro-organisms which includes chest, throat, nasal infections (such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, sore throat and sinusitis)

HOW ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET WORKS

ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis (essential for the bacteria to growth) that results in its destruction thus managing its growth and spread of infection in affected individuals.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Take ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET

COMMON

  • stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, flatulence
  • dizziness, headache
  • numbness/pickling sensation
  • loss of appetite, taste disturbance
  • visual disturbances, deafness
  • skin rash, itching
  • joint pain
  • tiredness, weakness

UNCOMMON

  • yeast infections of the mouth and vagina
  • allergic reactions of varying severity
  • increased skin sensitivity to sunlight
  • feeling nervous
  • reduced sense of touch or sensation
  • sleepiness/sleeplessness
  • poor hearing/ringing in the ears
  • racing heartbeat, chest pain
  • constipation, fever
  • signs of inflammation of the liver such as jaundice (yellowing of skin and whites of eyes), loss of appetite, dark urine
  • general loss of strength
  • swelling
  • general discomfort

RARE

  • vertigo (spinning head)
  • agitation

Stop taking ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling of eyelids, face/lips, rash, and/or itching (affecting the whole body)
  • signs of serious bowel inflammation such as severe/prolonged diarrhoea
  • signs of severe allergic skin reactions such as rash (causing redness and flaking of skin), scratch marks, and/or cracked skin
  • rapid/irregular heartbeat
  • low blood pressure
  • angioedema (swelling underneath the skin)
  • signs of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction such as yellowing of skin and whites of eyes, dark urine
  • dizziness, faint/ suffer from muscle weakness
  • serious skin reaction such as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (associated with signs such as blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals), Toxic epidermal necrosis (associated with signs such as blistering of the skin), Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (such as small, itchy red bumps), and/or Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis skin (associated with signs such as skin eruption with rapid appearance of red skin studded with small pustules)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Constipation

Try to eat high-fiber foods such as vegetables, cereals, fresh fruit, and drink plenty of water. Involve in regular exercise (going for a daily walk or run) and if this does not help, consult and inform your doctor for receiving alternate managements for constipation.

Diarrhea

Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhea. Consult your doctor and inform them if the symptom gets worse.

Headache

If ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of taking ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET. If it lasts more than a week or severe, inform your doctor.

Nausea And Vomiting

Try to take ZEN AZI 500MG TABLET with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if symptom gets worse.

  • efavirenz, nelfinavir (medicines used in the management of HIV)
  • fluconazole (used to manage fungal infection)
