History being made at Palisades! With a plan to restart the unit in 2025 and add two Holtec SMR-300s we are looking to be first to bring the next generation of nuclear to the US and continue Michigan’s strong investment in clean energy generation.
President, Global Clean Energy Opportunities / Senior Vice President of International Projects / Executive Committee Member
SMR-300, history in the making… this week I had the great pleasure of visiting our Palisades site in Michigan with members of our Advisory Board and fellow corporate executives. We aquired the 800 MW CE-type plant and the site on which its located in June 2022 for decommissioning, but with support from the state and federal government are well on our way to restarting the plant. The visit, led by our talented operations team (many of whom have worked at the plant for most of their professional life) taught us about the history of the plant, showed us some of the plant upgrades in process, and gave us a tour of the control room simulator (which recently passed a rigorous NRC inspection). With all the excitement on the restart, I was also keen to visit the location of our other major project under development at the site - our SMR-300 project. The location for a dual-unit SMR-300 plant within the Palisades site boundary has been selected and environmental works are underway to support the environmental report that will form part of our construction permit application planned for 2026. In addition to the restart, our first SMR-300 deployment is also underway at Palisades! Congrats to our dedicated and talented teams making history on both projects! Thank you, US Congress and thank you USG for coming to Ukraine’s aid! The passage of the bill in Congress last week to provide urgently needed aid to Ukraine reconfirms Lincoln’s quip, “We walk slow but we don’t walk back”. While slow in materializing, the bill, now assured to become law, will provide Ukraine the materiel to defend its vital infrastructure against russia’s intensifying air attacks against which the embattled democracy has become increasingly vulnerable as its supplies have dwindled. Lack of munitions have caused increased loss of Ukrainian soldiers whose indomitable spirit is on display as they, hobbled by low ammunition and vastly outnumbered, face the incessant barrage from well supplied russian hordes. Vastly under-resourced, they are dying the heroes’ death while defending not only their homeland but also the cause of democracy itself. Roosevelt gave Britain the militate aid that the country desperately needed as it faced Hitler in the early years of WWII. America’s aid to Ukraine today is just as crucial as the embattled nation faces putin’s mighty war machine. We are also pleased to see the West, led by America, take the steps needed to let Ukraine rebuild its devastated infrastructure with the frozen funds seized from russia. Taking the bandit’s money to redress the devastation wreaked by him is the most sublime form of poetic justice. - Dr Kris Singh, President &CEO, HOLTEC INTERNATIONAL
