How to Turn Off Do Not Disturb on Android

The quick-access toggle is the fastest way. Find it by swiping down from the top of the screen

What to Know

  • Swipe down from the Home screen and tap the Do Not Disturb toggle. It's off when it's not highlighted.
  • Or, go to Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb. Tap Turn off now.
  • If Do Not Disturb keeps coming on, hide the toggle and edit the schedules.

Android's Do Not Disturb can help with distractions but will also halt some text messages, incoming calls, and other notifications. Here's how to turn off Do Not Disturb to have your notifications displayed again.

How to Turn Off Do Not Disturb Mode on Android

You can use the Notification Center or the Settings app to turn off Do Not Disturb.

Use Notification Center

This is the quickest method. Swipe down from the Home screen to reveal the Notification Center, then swipe once more to expand the whole panel. Tap Do Not Disturb to toggle it off.

Use the Settings App

This method requires a few more steps but because it dives into the full list of settings, it provides access to a wider range of Do Not Disturb options.

  1. Open the Settings app. One way to get there is to swipe up from the Home screen to reveal the app drawer.

  2. Select Notifications.

Why Won't Do Not Disturb Turn Off?

If Do Not Disturb is on even after you previously turned it off, it's likely due to a schedule.

To fix this, open the Schedules settings from the Do Not Disturb settings menu (the same used to turn the feature off). This will present a list of currently active schedules. Tap the toggle next to a schedule to disable it or tap the schedule itself to change when it should run.

Why Is Do Not Disturb Missing from the Notification Center?

It might appear as though Do Not Disturb is missing from the panel that shows up when you pull down the Notification Center. In reality, it's just hidden. You can't actually delete this button.

Learn how to use the Quick Settings menu to see how to get the DND toggle back. You'll be able to make it accessible from just one downward swipe, which is great if you use this option a lot.

Can I Permanently Turn Off Do Not Disturb?

It's not possible to entirely remove Do Not Disturb, but most of its features can be disabled.

Follow the directions above that use the Settings app. When finished, tap Schedules and turn off all schedules shown. Then change the Quick Settings menu to remove Do Not Disturb from view.

Again, the DND toggle will remain, but it won't turn on automatically and won't be visible in the Quick Settings menu. It'll remain off until you turn it back on in Settings.
