creative photography ideas- part 2: Panning

Welcome back to class 🤓

Now that we know all about capturing motion blur (part 1) and you’ve done your homework, I’m assuming 😏

The next creative shot I want to teach you is PANNING.

Panning in photography is like dancing with your camera. You have to move your hips, follow the beat, and try to keep up with the rhythm. Instead of twirling around a partner, you're spinning to capture a moving subject in motion. It's a tricky move, but once you nail it, you'll feel like a rockstar.

the art of storytelling with photography is an important task. you are the artist, the director and creative mind behind each shot you take.

panning is a camera technique that combines a slow shutter speed with a sweeping motion of the camera.

- to begin…

- put your camera in Manual

- lower your shutter speed to 1/60 or less (play around with this. start with the aperture at F5 or higher and adjust as needed while also adjusting your ISO for proper exposure.

- turn your auto focus mode to high speed or continuous.

- with your subject in motion, follow your subject with a steady hand of the camera and shoot continuously. you may have to do this a few times to capture this technique as it is tricky, but your goal is to have the subject be in focus and the background blurred.

Follow along in the slides for more and we will see you tomorrow for class on REFLECTIONS!
