What is The Difference Between Ram Mega Cab And Ram Crew Cab

The Dodge Ram Cab was initially a truck made for farmers and entrepreneurs. Today, the scope of such vehicles is vast, as they can transport furniture, construction materials, agricultural products, heavy industrial loads, small equipment (bicycles, ATVs), and more. Big families with many children can also use them. The pickup truck comes in different cab sizes, including regular, quad, crew, and mega. Many Ram enthusiasts often end up choosing between two – Crew Cab and Mega Cab. So, what’s the difference? Let’s find out.

What Is A Ram Crew Cab?

The Crew Cab is a four-door version of the Dodge Ram Cab, with a large tailgate and plenty of room for rear passengers. The number of seats is 5 or 6, depending on the configuration.

The engine is a 3.6 L six-cylinder, mild hybrid with 24 valves. Horsepower reaches 305 hp @ 6,400 rpm, while torque is 269 lb-ft @ 4,800 rpm. The car’s length is 232.9 in, width without mirrors is 82.1 in., and height is 77.6 in. For the passenger’s comfort, there are transmission, cruise, and audio controls on the steering wheel, as well as a rearview camera and cruise control option. The fuel tank capacity is 26.0 gal.

If you’re choosing a Crew Cab for a family of 2–3 people, the Big Horn model, with the rugged off-road, exterior, and interior enhancements, might be perfect. However, it’s challenging to find this version of the Ram Cab, as it was discontinued after 2010. The manufacturer's suggested retail price starts at $47,915.

What Is A Ram Mega Cab?

It is the largest Ram Cab model. It offers more space for passengers at the back than at the front. The rear seats are separately adjustable, and there is plenty of legroom. There are two available versions, 2500 and 3500, which differ in the number of sheets in the springs and, accordingly, the payload. The Mega Cab’s length is approximately equal to that of the Quad Cab with a long body. Extra-long body versions of the pickup truck are scarce and almost impossible to purchase and find.

A Mega Cab allows transforming the rear seat into a perfectly flat bed measuring 63x51 inches. Consideringhe folding center seat in the front row, the number of seats is six. The pickup’s engine is a 6.4 L eight-cylinder gas engine with 16 valves and a capacity of 6.4 L. The fuel tank capacity is 31.0 gal.

When it comes to safety, there is no other vehicle as Ram Mega Cab: the pickup trucks are equipped with a post-collision safety system, dual front side-mounted airbags, front and rear head airbags, passenger airbag occupant sensing deactivation, stability and traction control, child seat anchors, rear door child safety locks, 4-wheel ABS, and many more. Thus, you definitely can’t go wrong if you choose this car for a big family with children. But be prepared to pay the manufacturer's suggested retail price, which starts at $54,035.

What Is The Difference Between Mega And Crew Cabs?

Mega models are slightly more expensive than Crew ones. Unsurprisingly, the main difference is the cost. For example, the manufacturer's minimum retail price for a Ram Crew Cab is $47,915, while for a Mega, it starts at $54,035.

The Mega Cab models have a longer truck: min. 249.9 inches in total length, compared with 238.8 inches for Crew Cab models with shorter beds. The shorter bed length can also pose a potential problem with some fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers. Depending on its design, sharp turns may make the trailer uncomfortably close to the truck's cab.

Note that Mega Cab trucks are only available in 4×4 configurations and only with the 6-foot or 4-inch bed, while the other version allows choosing between 4×2 and 4×4 and an 8-foot-long bed.

Summary

If you consider buying yourself Dodge Ram full-size pickup truck, you have to pick the cab because there are plenty to choose from. One is more suitable for a big family and is perfect for commercial purposes. The main difference between Mega and Crew is the price, the truck size, and fuel consumption. But overall, If you have enough money not to think about these subtleties, go with Mega Cab.
