Description

Amalfi Coast Wine Tour

Nestled 1100 feet above sea level, Ravello is one of Italy’s most stunning coastline wonders. Enjoy a tour of this city and one if its most celebrated wineries with your private English-speaking guide from Italy’s Best on our Amalfi Coast wine tour.

Start with a visit to Villa Rufolo, built between the eleventh and thirteenth centuries, when Roman aristocrats founded the town. The villa’s Arabian style architecture was typical in the south of Italy during the Norman domination. The beautiful gardens and terrace view have mesmerized many travellers and were also the source of inspiration for classical composer Richard Wagner, who looked to his experiences at the Villa to compose his “Parsifal”. The terrace Giovanni Boccaccio mentions the villa in the “Decameron,” his famous literary work.

Next visit Villa Cimbrone, believed by many to be the most beautiful villa in Ravello. The Villa’s gardens are breathtakingly beautiful and contain a wealth “of the most beautiful flowers imaginable”. They were largely redesigned at the start of the 20th century with the valuable input of the English gardener Vita Sackville-West, and are considered among the most important examples of the English landscape and botany culture in the South of Europe.
