Hollywood Diet

French nutritionist, Dr Pierre Dukan, is the brain behind the new weight-loss plan. It started as an experiment in 1975, when a patient offered to try anything to lose weight except give up meat. Dukan put him on lean meat for five days. The result was a spectacular weight loss of almost 12 pounds. The diet has been perfected over the years and now forms the must-do diet plan for Hollywood celebrities.

When on diet?

Avoid fatty food as much as possible, including vegetable fat.

Reduce salt intake.

Drink about 2 litres of water a day.

The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, owes her super-slim physique during her marriage to Prince William to the diet. Jennifer Lopez (left) and supermodel Gisele Bundchen are the other poster girls for the diet.

Refined sugars, sweets, rice, breads, cereals, pasta, potatoes, lentils, bananas and grapes are rich sources. Carbs provide 4 calories per gram absorbed.

All seafood, meat and eggs. Proteins provide 4 calories for every gram that is absorbed by the body.

Red meats to cooking oils. Lipids provide 9 calories per gram that gets assimilated.

The Four Phases of a Dukan Plan

The first phase is a high-protein, no-carb phase. There is a list of 72 protein-rich foods to choose from during this week of dieting.

A high-protein diet with a vegetarian diet on alternate days. To the 72 protein-rich foods, 28 low-carb vegetables are now added.

Carbs are added back into the daily diet in small portions. One is allowed two celebration meals a week. The goal is a 1 pound loss for every 5 days.

Eat what you want, except one day a week when you revert to the Attack Stage and follow a high-protein, no-carb regimen.
