Championship club Wolves have sacked manager Walter Zenga after only 87 days in charge.

The former Italy goalkeeper replaced Kenny Jackett at the club on July 30, in the aftermath of the takeover by Chinese conglomerate Fosun.

Zenga was given significant financial investment to improve the squad during the summer transfer window but only managed to win four games from the 14 they have played so far this season.

It is the 10^th time the Italian has failed to last a year in his job, with all four of his last managerial jobs ending within seven months.

In a statement, the club said: “Wolves have announced that Walter Zenga’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect.

“Stefano Cusin, Assistant Head Coach has also left the Club.

“Wolves will be conducting a thorough process to recruit a new Head Coach and won’t be revealing any timescales associated with this important task.

“Rob Edwards, First Team Coach, has been placed in interim charge of the first team, supported by Under 23s Coach, Scott Sellars.

“The Club would like to extend their thanks and best wishes to Walter and Stefano for their contribution to Wolves during the season so far.

“Wolves will be making no further comment at this stage.”

The 56-year-old leaves Wolves in 18^th place in the Championship table, only four points outside of the relegation zone.
