As previously announced, Oprah Winfrey will receive a Vanguard Award while Emmy Award-winning Niecy Nash-Betts will be feted with a Stephen F. Kolzak Award. During the ceremony, GLAAD will also announce award recipients for LGBTQ representation in categories that span film, TV, news and Spanish-language media.
“The LGBTQ community has supported and stood by me for as long as I’ve been a performer,” Hudson said in a statement. “It is a privilege to share another facet of my artistry with my nearest and dearest fans, and to expand on my lifelong journey of being an ally. Music brings people together and I can’t wait to spread the love and joy with queer people and GLAAD this year.”
Added Chlöe: “It is so important to me to be an ally and advocate for an organization that for decades has stood for unity, inclusiveness and human rights. I do believe that in any community, you have to see yourself in stories and media and I am thrilled to be here to celebrate all the contributions that the LGBTQ community has made in this space. And to be here to celebrate true icons Oprah Winfrey and Niecy Nash-Betts just makes this even more special.”
The 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards are presented by Gilead Sciences, Inc. and Hyundai with additional support from Hornitos, Delta Air Lines and Sony Music Group. The full list of this year’s nominees can be found here.
