What makes an enduring style icon? Impeccable outfits and a certain je ne sais quoi quality, of course, but also unexpected, daring moments. After all, what's fashion and beauty without some fun? No one knows this better than perennial cool-girl, Sienna Miller.

The Anatomy Of A Scandal actress attended the unveiling of the Jimmy Choo Christmas tree at Claridge's this week sporting a decidedly nostalgic hairstyle by hairstylist Earl Simms. Remember schoolgirl days of tiny twists along the crown? Well, Sienna's bringing it back for 2022 (which means we'll all be reaching for mini elastic bands ASAP). Instead of securing the braids with butterfly clips, as we all would have done in the early 2000s, Simms kept things chic and minimal to "complement both the (Simone Rocha) dress and Sienna’s natural beauty".

It's a relatively simple look to achieve at home, he explains. Great styles often start with a great blow-dry and this was no exception. "I started by blow-drying the hair smooth then misting the hair with a good amount of brush-able hair spray," says the hairstylist, who recommends classic L'Oréal Elnett, as it holds a shape yet allows you to work your fingers through the hair with no crispiness.

He then created soft S-shape waves using a curling tong before breaking up the pieces with a paddle brush. Now for the fun part: "Put your hair into a parting of your choice, then take a section of hair from the front – ideally one inch thick – twisting away from the forehead so it becomes tight but not uncomfortable," he explains. "Secure with a snag-free elastic band and repeat on the other side of your head." To keep it in place for a night of dancing, simply pin it in place. In line with Sienna's nonchalant, Bohemian-chic aesthetic, Simms tucked the rest of the hair behind her ears for a polished-yet-undone feel.

The rest of the look was kept grown-up with soft-focused, no make-up make-up by longtime collaborator Wendy Rowe. A wash of rose petal pink across the eyes and lips, fresh skin and a hint of mascara is all you need to party a la Sienna.
