If society wants you to know one thing about Rooney Mara, it’s that she belongs to one of America’s most prestigious families. Her great-uncle Dan is the chairman of the Pittsburgh Steelers and served as the U.S. ambassador to Ireland, while her uncle John is the president, CEO and co-owner of the New York Giants. Her grandfather runs a raceway, a distant relative is a senator, and her sister is also an actor. (Is prestigious the right word here? Let's just say rich.)

Of course, there is much more to Rooney Mara than her family, like her considerable acting talent or charity work. And as it turns out, there is more to the Mara family than just owning football teams. Specifically: awkward family traditions. As Mara revealed to Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, her family always brings a Santa to their Christmas Eve party, and it’s usually a drunk friend taking part in some weird jokes. Mara said she was sitting on Santa’s lap until the age of 23 because of the tradition, because everyone else thought it was hilarious to make inappropriate comments as it kept happening. The only thing that comes to close to being as disturbing as the awkward sexualization of a sweet childhood tradition is Mara only received “one fucking present” for her troubles.
