Today marks exactly 10 years since Michael Schumacher had an unfortunate fall during a skiing holiday in the French Alps, sustaining serious head injuries. We reflect on the event that dramatically changed the lives of the Schumacher family.

Ten years since Michael Schumacher's skiing accident

On 29 December 2013, a shockwave went through the Formula 1 world. Schumacher, a seven-time world champion and still considered by many today to be the best F1 driver ever, had suffered a serious skiing accident in which he sustained serious injuries. He was immediately put into a medically induced coma by doctors and would spend six months in that state.

Not much was released about the motorsport legend's condition, but it was clear that it was very serious. In June 2014, Schumacher awoke from his coma, but since then, his condition has rightfully remained a mystery. His family shares little to nothing about his current condition, and only a few are allowed to visit every now and then.

One such person is Jean Todt, the former Ferrari team boss with whom Schumacher had his most successful period in Formula 1. Todt is also not releasing much about how the 54-year-old German is doing. He did say he sometimes watches races with Schumacher at his home in Switzerland, but it is clear that the racing legend is not his old self.

Michael's brother, Ralf Schumacher, recently said in an emotional interview that he misses his 'Michael of old' very much. He indicated that a lot is possible medically but that nothing is the same as before. He also talked about how difficult the tragic accident was for Michael's children, Mick Schumacher and Gina-Maria Schumacher.

In the Netflix documentary 'Schumacher', Michael's wife Corinna and Mick Schumacher shared rare information about Michael. For instance, Corinna said that her husband underwent therapy sessions, and Mick said he would give anything to be able to talk to his father one more time.
