Denise Van Outen has announced she's returning to the stage for charity - in a new play she wrote and stars in.
The TV star and West End actor is reviving her 2014 one-woman play Some Girl I Used to Know for a series of special livestreams - and it's being directed by her pal and EastEnders' icon Tamzin Outhwaite
She'll sing a mixtape of musical numbers from the 80s and 90s in what describes as "pure escapism".
For four performances over the Easter weekend, Denise will play Stephanie, an Essex girl made good who, on the surface, seems to have it all. Fancy job, husband and a happy life.
We join Stephanie in her hotel room, with only her laptop, her phone, and the mini bar at her disposal. She gets a message from her first love, and is faced with decisions on what to do about her future - does she choose her fit first love or dependable husband?
Writing on Instagram, Denise explained: "I’ve been keeping this one secret for a short while - I’m now THRILLED to announce a brand new live stream for 4 evenings over the Easter weekend of my one-woman play (from the west end) ‘SOME GIRL I USED TO KNOW’ that I co-wrote with my friend Terry Ronald.
"I’ve teamed up with the multitalented Tamzin Outhwaite who will direct me in this PILM (play and film). A portion of the profits will be donated to @madtrust to support those working in the arts who have been affected by the pandemic - we’ve all got to stick together right now."
Denise will be donating a percentage of the profits to the Make A Difference Trust, which is supporting those in the theatre who have lost jobs due to the pandemic.
"We wanted to support the theatre industry in general and raise what we could for the trust,’” she explains. "It's been the worst time for thousands of amazing staff, so this is a nod to them and I guess a way for Tamzin and me to do our bit."
