Kate Hudson is coming for the charts. The Oscar-nominated actor is ready to move into music, and she’s making good on her promise to record an album.

On New Year’s Eve, Hudson uploaded a carousel of pictures and videos from her December 28 concert at an Aspen resort, where she performed hits like “Nothing Compares 2 U” and “Dance the Night” from the recent blockbuster Barbie. In the Instagram caption, she wrote, “Well, on the eve of a new year I say bring on 2024! I vow to sing and play and love and sing and love some more…Love you all and hope you join me on this adventure cause a winds a blowing and I’m going with it ❤️…To be in my hometown and have a first fun and joyous gig was dreamy.”

It seems that Hudson has not abandoned her plan to record an album, which she announced in April 2022. “Finally realized it’s time to say f#%! it and saaaannngg!!!!! #albumincoming #myikigai,” she wrote on Instagram alongside two pictures of herself rehearsing with a band. On December 20, 2023, she shared an update about the project, writing, “Two and a half years in the making. Lock down reminded me to have no creative regrets in life, take chances, don’t let anyone determine why or when you chose to put art in the world, be fearless in moves you make and music is my first creative love story that I would regret not sharing. Might be time 💫2024 gonna be fun💫” and uploading videos from the album-making process.

While some outlets have referred to the Aspen performance as Hudson’s “surprise musical debut,” that’s far from true. Despite society’s attempts to memory-hole that time Daniel Day-Lewis did a musical, Nine exists, and Hudson sang and danced her butt off in it.
