Charlotte Rampling, 76, shares her thoughts on ageing gracefully and why she'd NEVER have plastic surgery: 'I don't agree with it'

Charlotte Rampling has never gone under the knife to preserve her good looks - and she never will.

The 76-year-old English actress simply believes in ageing gracefully - and says she's 'fascinated' with the process.

'It doesn't speak to me, this question. It does not speak to me. I really don't have a relationship with,' she told The Sydney Morning Herald on Sunday, when asked about getting older.

'It will be what it will be. My face is not too bad, so I don't have to have surgery' the Dune star continued.

'Even if I'd wanted to, I probably never would have because I'm too frightened of it and I don't agree with it. I'm sort of fascinated by my face getting old.'

When it comes to staying fit and healthy, the actress insists it's down to DNA.

'I keep myself, resolutely, as strong and well as I can, physically. I've got very much my father's body, the muscular tone,' she says.

Charlotte once famously attributed the longevity in her career - and ability to land 'sexy' roles - to not altering her famous visage.

'Don't change your face and you can get really interesting parts - not just granny parts; you can get sexy parts, too' The Night Porter star said.

Earlier this year, Charlotte recollected the time she enjoyed a flirt with Russell Crowe before he hit the big time in his acting career.

The Oscar-nominated actress, who leapt to prominence in Georgy Girl - 'a doll never out of trouble' - recalls co-starring with Russell, 58, in 1993 Australian romantic drama Hammers Over The Anvil.

At the time, she was married to philandering French musician Jean-Michel Jarre, now 74, while Crowe was in an on-off relationship with actress Danielle Spencer, who later became his wife.

Speaking to The Daily Mail's Richard Eden, Charlotte said that the younger Russell was: 'A very attractive young man', explaining that it was before Crowe, now 'became huge' thanks to films including 2000's Gladiator.

She went on: 'I had a flirt. You could leave it at that.'

Charlotte is currently appearing in the film Juniper and will next star in the sequel to science fiction hit Dune.
