The Matrix star Carrie-Anne Moss reflects on filming the iconic movie in Sydney two decades ago - as she stars in franchise's fourth instalment

The Matrix star Carrie-Anne Moss has reflected on the role that defined her career -  Trinity in The Matrix. 

The Canadian actress, 54, who filmed the sci-fi flick in Sydney over two decades ago, returned to the franchise this year to star in its fourth instalment The Matrix: Resurrections.  

'It definitely stretched me and made me grow as a person physically, spiritually, emotionally – every way,' she said of her role in The Matrix (1999) during an interview with The Daily Telegraph this weekend.

'Obviously, the highlights of my life are giving birth to my children... and then the Matrix, with my career and my life, that's a huge highlight for sure.'

Carrie-Anne also noted that she misses her beachside base in Coogee, where she stayed during filming, as well as the flat white coffees she used to drink while Down Under.  

Carrie-Anne next reprises her role as Trinity/Tiffany in Lana Wachowski's The Matrix: Resurrections.

She is joined by fellow Matrix co-star Keanu Reeves.

'I was completely surprised and thrilled at the idea. I definitely didn't foresee having this experience again but it's been fun,' she said.  

The first film which was released in 1999 was a smash hit at the box office as it earned over $460million worldwide. 

She also starred together in the sequels - The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions which both came out in 2003 - before the opportunity for a fourth film came nearly two decades later.
