Hi,
Im trying to experiment with the OBD plug of my LGN 1.5dCi

It seems OK with KWP2000, but nothing with can bus.
Do you know how does this can-bus work on this car.

Fill them up with petrol or diesel make sure you have oil and water in it
Drive it carfully and you will get 350000kms biggrin.gif
Play around with the OBC you are asking for trouble .and you can wave BYE BYE to any garantie sad.gif

Like Illusion said, Logan doesn't use the CAN bus for EOBD.
It is used for specific Renault commands.

EOBD is wired on KWP.

I've read somewhere that Siemens Sirius "computer system" (used in Logan, at least 1.4mpi one) supports CAN (controller area network) for communication between different "computers" in the system. KWP2000 is not the same thing as CAN?

KWP is a comm protocol build up on various transports, as it is on CAN.
CAN is mostly used in automotive - kind of a standard from BOSCH.

LE. In one of my previous post I said that EOBD is build up on KWP, which is true, but incomplete. The KWP is a diagnostic protocol. On Logan KWP is wired on KLine, a serial protocol. KWP is specified to be build on KLine or CAN.

At the moment few cars have EOBD or JOBD on CAN. Most of them are build on KLine - much more cheper.

If you interogate the CAN line, you might end up communication on the Renault specific protocol - not quite recommened.

Thank you very much for this clarification!

Do you maybe have some link (URL) where I could find some more info about it (OBDII build up on KWP wired on KLine - as, I understood, is the case in Logan).

KLine is, again, as I understood, some kind of "bus" specification?
and KWP is diagnostic protocol, a "language" used between car computer and diagnostic equipment?

Or maybe I got it all wrong?

KLine and CAN are bus specifications, concrete wirings and so on. Meaning that they came with wires also. They have a logical protocal shape also, better to put it in the Transport Protocol category.

KWP is a diagnostig protocol. Search for ISO 14230.
OBD is equivalent to ISO 15031-5. If you search for this info, you might end up at ASAM or another organization which publish those standards.

There is a site with light informations on the topic: www.obdii.com. At www.iso.org you can buy a copy of the standard.

offtopic:

Martin don't be so critical with Klaus, he just applied the forum regulation where is written that writing with capital letters is not allowed and a lot of your posts are with capital letters. This is (capital letters) also not nice for us the other members of forum because 1st this meas that you shout at us and 2nd is very hard to read big letters for long time.

This is my explanation for you, because Klaus can stand up for himself , OK? ( in this case not necessary anyway )

ontopic:

In case is not clear by now ODB and variations are for diagnostic and eventually for erasing "events" from ECU's memory and cannot be used for modifications on software.

If you want modifications you need proprietary software protocol from Renault or hardware changes in order to make tunning or consumption adjustments.
