No change atop the American models ranking in October: the Ford F-Series leads the way with 52,511 sales and is followed by the Chevrolet Silverado at 36,656 units, both up 7% year-on-year. For the first time in 18 months, the Honda Accord climbs onto the podium at #3 with 22,589 sales and is the best-selling passenger car this month ahead of the Toyota Camry, #4 at 22,043 units.

The Nissan Altima lodges another very impressive month at 21,838 sales, only 200 units below the Camry, up 15% year-on-year and bringing its year-to-date total to 222,392 units, up 18% and #4 overall. In spite of the imminent arrival of the new generation, the Honda CR-V is also very robust this month at #7 and 19,326 sales, up 11%. The Ford Escape drops 2 spots on September to #8 at 19,046 units but passes the Ford Fusion to reach an excellent 5th place in 2011 YTD.

Dodge Avenger

For the first time since February 2008, the Honda Pilot breaks into the US Top 20 at #18 in October with 12,466 units, up 56% on October 2010. The Chrysler 200 gains 16 spots on September to reach a best-ever 22nd place with 11,205 sales. Other great performers this month include the Kia Optima up 19 spots to #36, the Dodge Avenger up 29 spots to #42, the VW Passat up 35 spots to #63 and the Mercedes M Class up 34 ranks to #78.

Quick update on the new models in the ranking: the new generation Toyota Yaris lands directly in the Top 50 at #49 with 6,792 units, up 161% year-on-year, the Chevrolet Sonic is up 53 spots and breaks into the Top 100 for the first time at #83 with 3,833 sales and the Hyundai Veloster lands directly at #86 for its first full month of sales at 3,724 units sold.

Mercedes M Class

The new VW Beetle is up 110% on September at 1,516 sales and the Chevrolet Volt passes the Nissan Leaf for the first time at 1,108 units vs. 849, totalling 5,003 sales since launch compared to 8,048 for the Leaf.

Brandwise, Mercedes and Audi both delivers their best ever October sales, while Kia passes the 400,000 units mark for the first time in the history of the brand with sales up 35% year-on-year and a 14th straight monthly sales record. Hyundai has just beaten its 2010 annual sales record with 545,316 cars sold and 2 months to go…

Dutch car sales are up a shy 1% this month at 44,052 registrations while the year-to-date total is up a much healthier 14% at 497,940 units. The podium is unchanged vs. September and identical to the year-to-date ranking again: the VW Polo rules with 2,558 sales and 5.8% share this month and 22,539 and 4.5% year-to-date.

The Peugeot 107 and Renault Twingo follow at 1,782 and 1,758 units respectively, both at 4% market share. This month’s best performer is the Ford Ka, up 9 spots on September to reach an excellent 4th place with 1,361 sales and 3.1%. It is #12 year-to-date. The Toyota Aygo is down one spot to #5 while the Kia Picanto lodges another very strong month at #6 with 1,118 units and 2.5%. The Opel Agila also delivers an outstanding month at #7 with 966 sales and 2.2% vs. #30 and 0.9% year-to-date…

Kia Rio

The other impressive performer this month is the new generation Kia Rio, up a massive 36 spots on September to land #16 with 755 units and 1.7% share. Notice also the Peugeot 508 up 9 spots to #11, the Opel Insignia also up 8 spots to #22, the BMW 1 Series up 14 spots to #30, the Nissan Micra up 23 ranks to #41 and the Suzuki Splash up 26 spots to #44.

New car sales in Austria are up just 1% this month at 28,909 registrations, with the 2011 year-to-date total up 8% at 302,445 units. No surprises on top: the VW Golf dominates again with 1,307 sales and 4.5%, it is the 20th consecutive month the Golf is #1 in Austria, the last time it wasn’t was in February 2010. The VW Polo is #2 for the 10th time in the last 12 months at 1,098 units and 3.8%, above its 2011 level (3.3%).

Excellent performance of the VW Tiguan up 2 spots to #3 with 724 sales and 2.5% share, making the podium 100% Volkswagen. It is the first time since December 2009 the Tiguan climbs on the Austrian podium. The Renault Scenic maintains itself at an outstanding 6th position with 570 units and 2% share while the Ford Fiesta is up 10 spots on September to #7 with 567 sales.

BMW X3

Further down the ranking, notice the BMW X3 up a huge 44 ranks to land in 13th position at 429 units and 1.5%, the Audi A1 up 24 spots to #30, the Seat Alhambra up 10 spots to #35, the Kia Rio up 10 spots to #52 and the Citroen DS4 up 31 ranks to become Citroen’s best-seller in Austria at #62 with 160 sales. The Audi Q3 makes its very first appearance in the Austrian Top 100 at #73 with 120 units.

Russian car sales continue to be boosted by scrappage schemes, up a massive 27% in October at 240,865 registrations and at +43% over the first 10 months of the year at 2,162,504 units.

For the first time in 5 years, the Lada Samara leads the Russian car market with a very robust 13,948 sales and 5.8% share, up 49% year-on-year. It however stays #4 year-to-date at 99,604 units and 4.6%, up 15%. The Lada Kalina ranks 2nd with 11,615 sales and 4.8%, keeping the 2011 lead at 121,400 units and 5.6%, ahead of the Lada Priora at 11,563 sales and 119,522 year-to-date (5.5%).

Lada Samara

Like in September, the Hyundai Solaris delivers an outstanding 4th position with 10,271 sales and 4.3%, its third time above 10,000 monthly units so far this year… Very strong month for the Ford Focus, up one spot to #5 and 8,541 units (3.5%). The Renault Logan is up 2 spots to #6, the Lada 4×4 is stable at #7 and the Lada 2104-2107 is down to a paltry 8th place, its lowest ever!

Thanks to the new generation now in dealerships, the Kia Rio is up to #9 with 5,735 sales and 2.4% share, already the nameplate’s best score this year. Other good performers this month include the Renault Sandero up to #13 with 1.9% and the Nissan Qashqai up to #16 and 1.6%.

Mexican car sales slow down their growth this month at +2% and 75,747 registrations, with the year-to-date total up a very healthy 10.5% at 707,083 units. The Nissan Tsuru is in pole position for the second month in a row, however with a shy 4,408 sales and 5.8% share, its lowest in over a year. It is still #2 year-to-date at 47,243 units and 6.7% behind the VW Clasico, leader year-to-date at 49,031 units and 6.9% and #3 in October at 4,040 sales and 5.3%.

This month’s best performer is the new Nissan Versa, up to 2nd place for the very first time in Mexico with 4,052 sales and 5.3%, its best monthly share so far. The Versa breaks into the 2011 year-to-date Top 10 at #10 and 13,693 units. The Chevrolet Aveo (3.8%) and Nissan Tiida Sedan (3%) stay put but see their share slide down from last month, while the Nissan March ranks 7th again at 2.9% share, now #9 year-to-date. The Honda CR-V is up to a fantastic 8th place with 2.6% of the Mexican market.

For the second month in a row, General Motors manages to place 3 models in the Top 4 in China! The Buick Excelle leads the way for the third consecutive month with 24,288 sales, reinforcing its 2011 leadership at 215,783 units, the only model in China to have already passed the 200,000 units mark after 10 months this year. In 2nd place comes the VW Lavida with 23,121 sales, it is now at 199,483 units year-to-date, also #2.

Brilliance H530

The Chevrolet Sail improves again on September, gaining one spot to reach a best-ever 3rd position with 20,116 sales. It is now #10 year-to-date. The Chevrolet Cruze ranks 4th at 19,785 units, ahead of the VW Jetta at 19,371 sales and the Honda CR-V, delivering another outstanding month at #6 and 17,784 units. Chinese models are in better shape this month with 2 representatives in the Top 10: the FAW Xiali N-Series at #9 and the Great Wall Voleex C30 at #10, only its third time in the Chinese Top 10.

Great Wall Voleex C30

Third best-selling Chinese, the Great Wall Hover is up 18 spots to #22, the Kia K2 continues to climb up the ranking, up 11 spots to #23 with 11,327 sales, the Gleagle Freedom Ship is up 18 spots to #39 and the BYD S6 is up 13 spots to #40. Other good performers include the Mazda3 Starcheng up 19 spots to #59 and the Chevrolet Aveo up 16 ranks to #81.

Kia K2

This month’s real stars are Chinese: the Baojun 630, the first model from General Motors’ new low cost brand, is up 70 spots and a massive 153% on September to reach the 73rd place with 5,003 sales, and the Brilliance H530 has become the brand’s best-selling model for its second full month of sales, up 23 spots and 21% to #78 and 4,567 units.

Lianhua L5

Two models make their very first appearance in the Chinese ranking: the Lianhua L5 at #156 with 1,358 sales and the Taiwanese Luxgen 7 SUV, now produced in China and therefore part or this ranking, arriving at #161 with 1,316 units sold in October.

In the midst of a Euro currency turmoil, the European car market holds itself pretty well, slowing down only by 1% both year-on-year in October and year-to-date at 1,044,552 and 11,467,336 registrations respectively. The VW Golf is the uncontested leader in Europe with 38,076 sales and 3.6% market share, its 18th consecutive month in the European pole position. The Golf is also #1 year-to-date at 413,156 units and has been the best-seller in Europe for 38 of the last 40 months, only ranking #2 in March ’09 and ’10…

In second place, the VW Polo is up 2 spots on September with 29,199 sales and 2.8%, also claiming back the #2 spot in the 2011 year-to-date ranking at 301,721 units, passing the Ford Fiesta, #3 both in October at 26,553 sales and year-to-date at 299,521 units. The Renault Clio, boosted by an exceptional performance in its native France, ranks 4th this month with 23,514 sales but is still #5 YTD behind the Opel Corsa. Notice the VW Passat up to an excellent 6th spot, its second-best score in the last 6 years…

Stable new car market in Turkey in October (there is one month delay for sales figures) at -1% and 47,508 registrations. The year-to-date total is still up 28% at 459,611 units. Renault reclaims the Top Two spots in the models ranking with the Symbol #1 at 2,756 sales and 5.8% followed by the Fluence at 2,454 sales and 5.2.%. The Symbol reinforces its 2011 pole position at 29,763 units and 6.5% while the Fluence is #3 at 23,676 sales and 5.2%, below the Fiat Linea, #3 this month, at 25,700 units and 5.6%.

The Opel Astra is back to #4 with 4% share, its little sister the Opel Corsa has an excellent month at #8 and 2.8%, the Toyota Auris is also in shape, up 11 spots on September at #11 and the Chevrolet Captiva continues to progress at #15 and 1.8% share. The new generation arriving in dealerships enables the BMW Series 3 to reappear in the Top 20 for the first time this year at #17 with 702 sales and 1.5%. Notice also the new gen Chevrolet Aveo Sedan breaking into the Top 25 at #24.

Car sales in the Netherlands are up a very healthy 12% this month at 41,264 registrations and 14% year-to-date at 538,754 units. Boosted by end-of-stock promotions on the current model before the arrival of the facelift in early 2012, the Renault Twingo leads the way for only the second time after February, delivering its best figures this year so far at 2,582 sales and 6.5% share vs. 20,842 and 3.9% year-to-date. 2011′s leader, the VW Polo, is down to #2 at 1,913 units and 4.6% vs. 24,441 and 4.5% year-to-date. The Toyota Aygo rounds up the podium at an outstanding 3.9% share.

Other great performers in the Top 10 include the Kia Picanto at #6 and 2.3% vs. #17 and 1.6% year-to-date, the Opel Agila at #8 and 2.2% vs. #28 and 1% YTD and the Chevrolet Spark at #10 and 2.1% vs. #26 and 1% YTD. Experts had predicted the French market would fall by over 10% year-on-year in November. Not so. Once again, car sales in France impress with their hold at -8% and 179,160 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 2,016,534 units, down just 0.3%. The Renault Clio reinforces its leadership with 9,937 sales and 5.5% share, now at 118,135 units and 5.9% year-to-date vs. 94,485 and 4.7% for the Peugeot 207, #2 this month at only 4.2%. 2011 will end up being one of the Clio’s easiest cruises to pole position, with 8 months out of 11 at #1…

Citroen DS5

The Renault Megane is stable in 3rd place at 3.7% and now threatens the Citroen C3 for a spot on the 2011 podium with 72,688 sales vs. 73,690 for the Citroen, #6 this month. The Renault Twingo confirms it is back to its traditional levels thanks to its quirky facelift, #4 this month at 3.5%.

The performance of the month goes to the Dacia Duster: up 2 spots on October it breaks into the French monthly Top 5 for the very first time at #5 with 5,782 sales and 3.2%, which are ranking, volume and market share records for the model! Dacia has a stellar month due to the return to full availability of its entire range: the Sandero stays in 15th place but improves to 1.9% share, its best in 10 months, while the Logan is up 25 spots on October to rank #33 with 1,328 sales, its best position in 15 months. Notice also the very first unit of the Dacia Lodgy registered this month.

Other great performers this month include the Ford C-Max up to #21 at 2,543 units and 1.4%, the Nissan Micra up 14 ranks to #30 and 1,524 sales, the BMW X1 breaking into the Top 50 at #48, the Kia Rio up 16 spots to #63, the Range Rover Evoque up 16 ranks also to #79 and the Audi Q3 breaking into the French Top 100 for the first time at #88 with 393 units sold.

As far as French newcomers are concerned, November is also a rich month. The Citroen DS5 makes its very first appearance in the monthly Top 100 in 74th position with 521 sales and 0.3% share. In anticipation for its March 2012 launch, 184 dealership units of the all-new Peugeot 208 are delivered this month, placing Peugeot’s future best-seller at #119…

While the French Passenger Car market is down 8% in November, the Light Commercial Vehicle sales are up an impressive 10% at 39,723 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 390,083 units, up 3%. For the first time this year the Renault Clio leads the way as it does in the PC ranking with 4.086 sales and 10.3%, ahead of the Renault Kangoo at 3,675 sales and 9.3%. The Kangoo is still #1 by far in the year-to-date ranking at 34,392 units and 8.8% vs. 26,216 and 6.7% for the Clio.

The Renault Master is up 4 spots to land on the podium at #3, followed by the Citroen Berlingo, up 2 ranks, and the Renault Trafic, down 1. The Fiat Ducato, #8 this month, now sees its 3rd place year-to-date threatened by the Berlingo and Master. Notice the Citroen Nemo up 5 spots on October to break into the Top 10 for the first time this year at #10 with 1,337 sales and 3.4% share.

The Italian car market continues to struggle at -9% and 133,314 registrations in November and -11% at 1,645,084 units year-to-date. Possibly helped by end-of-stock promotions for the current generation and the first units of the 2012 model arriving in dealerships, the Fiat Panda is on top for the third month in a row and the 5th time this year with 10,157 sales and 7.6%, its strongest share since February 2010… It is getting close to the Punto, #2 this month, in the year-to-date ranking with 107,448 units and 6.5% vs. 113,788 and 6.9% for the Punto.

The Lancia Ypsilon enjoys its 4th consecutive month at #3 with 4,869 sales and 3.7%. It is the first time in the history of the Ypsilon nameplate, launched in December 2003, that it manages to stay on the podium that long. The Fiat 500 is up 2 spots back to its traditional 4th place, making it 4 Italian models in the Top 4. The Renault Clio is in the Top 10 for the first time since June.

Other great performers this month include the VW Tiguan up 8 ranks on October to an excellent 23rd place at 1,505 units and 1.1% and the Hyundai ix35 up 21 spots to #31 with 1,150 sales and 0.9%. The Range Rover Evoque has aroused Italian consumers: it is #64 this month with 477 units and 0.4%, a level Range Rovers have not reached in at least 20 years
