Is there any reliable way to measure fuel consumption on Logan without boad computer?

Fuel indicator is, as someone said, only indicator - and is there just to indicate if we have full, two thirds, around half... of gasoline in the tank.

On some other car, with metal tank I would fill the tank to the max - drive some 200 km or so, fill it up again to the max, write down number of litres , divide - and that's it.

But Logan has plastic (and expandable) tank - so this method is neither recommended or reliable way to measure anything.

Other way is to drive Logan till the fuel reserve is gone ( till it stops) - then to put a canister of 20L of fuel in the tank, and drive till stops again.

But, this is also not recommended for fuel pump, as (I heard) it cools trough gasoline flow trough itself, and also doesn't like debris and various particles usually found in the bottom of the tank that would be soaked in the car fuel system this way.

Is there any better way to do it?

Ok, but would that damage the carbon filter in the fuel "expansion" part of the tank?

To avoid that, use the same gas pump and let the pump stop itself when it detects that the tank is "full", do not insist, stop the fill at the first "click" of the pump. Run the distance you want (at least 250-300Km) and go to fill again (again, stop the fill at the first "click"). Note the gas pumped and do the math...

You should have watched famous SAT to see how they measure fuel consumption
– special tank, precise amount of gasoline, computers, science… happy.gif
