Something caused all the dirt on the sensor, besides cleaning the sensor you need to find whats causing the problem.
No, I don't think that's normal at all. |

have in the meantime talked to many of our drivers, none of them recalls a similar problem, or even heard of it.
what do you mean by 'move the sensor'? remove it? just shake it? greetings - heinz - |

I can shake it left-right like the blue arrows on the picture.
I have try to remove it - to pull it up, but I can not do that! There are two plastic clicks on both sides of the sensor. I click them and try to pull the sensor UP, to remove it, but I can not do that! There is some oil and dirt around the sensor so I think the dirt come in in the hole, where sensor is mounted. Can anyone give me some drawing of section view - side view of sensor and its mounting in the hole. |

I have had a similar problem (i think) - occasionally, with no apparent reason/no predictable circumstances, it was very difficult to start the engine (had to try a lot of times before succeeding to start it). As it was getting worse (happened more & more often), I studied the forum (romanian section) and found out that I must clean the contacts from the engine's "rotation-speed sensor". Apparently, the problem is not that infrequent - so it may be your case too.
It was fixed in 10 minutes in the service (but I had to tell them exactly what to do - I couldn't take the car there and ask them to fix it, because there was a great chance that I won't be able to demonstrate the issue in the service). BTW, it never happened again since then (the difficult engine start) - so apparently, that was indeed the 'root cause'. This post has been edited by vv: 22 Jul 2008, 16:20 |

good explanation, makes sense. now we just need somebody to
translate that 'rotation-speed sensor' into the technical term it really is, or even find it in a drawing or have the parts number for it. i am sure one of our romanian readers could help. greetings - heinz - |

Pictures and position of crankshaft sensor can be found at http://www.daciaclub.ro/index.php?showtopic=6754&hl= .
In general is an electrical problem, the contacts must be wiped and cleaned, an maybe to use a contact spray on them. It is also good to clean the sensor of magnetic rests stick to it. For that it should be detach with a wrench number 10. If you are on the road you can try to pour a glass of water over the sensor (it will clean some of the magnetic debris |

klaus, tks for that detailed report, very valuable.
a few questions though: - why some cars have that problem, other (with as much as 160.000 km on the clock) not ever? manufacturing fault? bad quality of that sensor? was just wondering why this problem seems to be so unknown in western europe (NK/D forums). any idea? - when taking it out, anything to watch out for? will any liquid like oil run out there too? - when putting it back, anything to adjust, or calibrate? greetings - heinz |

I have driven my car to the service yesterday, before all your replies.
So I will ask my servicer what was the problem when he fix it. I will post it here. Question about this crankshaft sensor: Is it lower or upper on the picture: Senzor_turatie.jpg ( Size: 36.33k ) Number of downloads: 744 Thanks for all advices! @stojakovicv: is the lower one. The one on top is temperature sensor.
@heinz57g: on logan there are 2 type of sensor: normal and with gold plated contacts. Some have the golded one, some don't ... |

Actually, there have been 3 sensors mentioned in the above posts. Stojakovicv first mentioned a sensor totally unrelated to those last 2, I think.

correct, we have moved through various sensors this post. but last one
discussed, and the one with the pictures, is that crankshaft sensor, and that where the upper / lower question is not clear. glad though that stojakovicv got his problem cleared up, and more so, that it is known what it was. greetings - heinz - |

Ok, Thanks for all your adices. I have resolved my problem.
Can you tell me something about sensor for air pressure, that I have described in the first post #1. Air_inlet_pressure.JPG ( Size: 94.27k ) Number of downloads: 607 Is it normally to move it left-right like blue arrows ? On which way I can remove it out to clean it. I have tried to release it from plastic pin-clicks, but I can not pull it up. |

yes of course you are right!
Everything is easier when you have some diagnostic computer tool and see what is the error code ,.... I do not have it, and I can get answers only from you, from this forum! Other thing: If servicer say me what is wrong with my car , I can fix it by myself !!! Why to give him money for his work??? Other reasons why I go to workshop is TIME! I want my car to be repaired so fast, because i need it urgently yesterday. And the last thing: Please can anyone of you tell me something about software and hardware tool for diagnostic my Dacia Logan. Is this schematic OK for OBD interface: 24 Jul 2008, 12:26: yes of course you are right! Everything is easier when you have some diagnostic computer tool and see what is the error code ,.... simple diagnostic equipment fitting the DACIA computer is available for 30-50 Euro,
but for more sophisticated ones, the sky is the limit. even the most simple ones can for example reset the error codes. BUT, and this is a really big but: the diagnostic computer does hardly make any mistakes. it is the person interpreting the codes that makes them. to often. greetings - heinz - This post has been edited by heinz57g: 24 Jul 2008, 13:21 |

For one thing, it costs you nothing to try to clean the sensors, it would take you a couple of minutes of your time, and if that does not work, you still have the service. But if it does, you save yourself both time and money! (Taking a car to a service can be veeeeeery time-consuming too, not to mention getting it out of it !)
Heinz has a point - there is one murphy's law on computer sciences - "Computers always do what they are told, but rarely what we want them to do!" And getting a free advice from a servicemen when they can make 25 Euro on it, now that is a tough one! This post has been edited by g100sic: 24 Jul 2008, 18:35 |

>> For one thing, it costs you nothing to try to clean the sensors
absolutely. and write here if does NOT work, after. things do get dirty, not only on cars. friend of mine just (only 15 days ago) had his mercedes E320 moved by trailer back to hamburg/germany, all the way from albania. it just stalled on the road, all lights blinking. a perfect description. middle of the night, and he panicked. roadserivce -> automobileclub - back ... cost him 3700 EUR plus airticket 700 EURO to get all settled. just about half a LOGAN. repairbill of mercedes germany: 38.22 EURO. in words: thirty eight EURO twenty two CENTS. just a slipped belt because of a frozen (and then melted) fiber washer on a pulley. nothing. >> getting a free advice from a servicemen when they can make 25 Euro, now that is a tough one! always? all of them? i have a feeling they often treat you how you treat them. try it. let them feel you have trust and confidence, and if you are lucky, you get it back. greetings - heinz - |

Recently I have the same problems with starting the car. Last couple of days for the first time the car wont start, and the second time I try it starts like it's brand new.
I'll try to clean the sensors and see what's the result. Do I need to disconnect the battery before I start disconnecting the sensor? I guess I don't have to, but I'm asking anyway. No, you don't need to disconect de battery but I suggest to not clean the sensor... only his connector (clean the contacts using some contact cleaner spray)... on the other hand, in this period of the year, the starting problems could come from other causes... humidity etc.
I also suggest you to go to the service for a computer check... could be a problem in other point... |

It seems that the problem was not in the car.
I have installed LPG some time ago and I have the same petrol in the petrol tank for months, the tank had cca one quarter of petrol left. Once i added approximately 18 l of fresh petrol in the tank the problems stopped. |
