I have other problem....On a really hot day, when outside temperature is over 30 C, when I turn AC on, it makes funny noises between 2000 and 3500 rpm, something like RRRRRRR.
Guys in service checked it and said that everything is OK. When outside temperature is lower, it is quite quiet. I'm a bit ashamed to drive thorug city with car sounding RRRRR Does anybody have an idea or some expirience with this? |

You have to go into a service and check the fluids from A/C system. You must have 145ml of compressor oil and 750 of cooling agent, if i remember right.
It's possible that you have less oil than normal, or almost minimal. Good luck |

If the levels are not correct, nothing if it's in warranty time, if they are correct it should be around 25-30 euros... There are services that for this operation don't charge a penny if it's in warranty time...
It's best if you ask your local dealer. |

From Sanden:
The compressor (like any other machine) creates noise. Noise level inside the vehicle depends on many factors rather than compressor’s NVH level itself. A proper design of the A. C system (compressor bracket, hoses, pipes, HVAC insulation, etc.) is key to avoid noise. Abnormal A.C. Noise WITH CLUTCH UN-ENGAGED. Armature contact with pulley. -> Replace clutch. Pulley oscillation due to external hit.-> Replace clutch. Pulley contact with foreign element -> Remove contact WITH ENGAGED CLUTCH. Incorrect refrigerant amount -> Verify charge. Liquid refrigerant arriving to compressor -> Check expansion valve. Pipes/hoses contacts with vehicle body-> Remove contact Clutch slippage due to oil -> Remove compressor. Particle under discharge valve -> Pressures are quickly balanced when AC stops. Internal compressor damages -> Replace compressor |

26.06.2007. 17:23 CET outside temperature 33 C
I just came from Dacia service in Beocin. They took a look at my noisy AC, and said that everything is OK and that I have no need to worry and to enjoy cool air bla bla bla....Nobody checked oil and refrigerant level although I said that I saw on Dacia forum something about that issue. I paid nothing for this. If they checked levels, that costs 3500 RSD (some 45 E), because in order to check oil level, they need to empty refrigerant. So, what is next? To write to Renault Serbia or to drive like this? I have no warranty any more. Or to go to some independent AC service? Or to drive trough city and imagine I'm driving big John Deer sounding RRRRR |

Hi from Germany !
I have faced the same problem two days ago. The "RRRRRRRRR" sounds like plastic is scratching somewhere. I think I will visit my Dacia Dealer soon. I am really afraid of damage. And with guarantee... So lets see what will happen ... You hear from me Paykan |

The "RRRR" noise seems to be related to very high temperatures. When the outside temperature is >35-38 deg. Celsius my car's A/C begins to make that noise. I have driven last night with the A/C on (the temperature was about 28-30 deg. Celsius) and there was no "RRRR" noise.

In 1st gear or in reverse, when the rpm is low (below some minimum threshold), the A/C compressor will disengage and then engage back when the rpm reaches minimum threshold. When it starts back up the fuel injection computer automatically adjusts the rpm to compensate the power surge caused by the A/C compressor.

Our 1998 Laguna's airco sounds the same for 9 years now.
The click sound is the clutch, the Laguna's airco is "controlled" (no climate control) and switches on/off while operating (to minimize fuel consumption it will not "overcool"). The "hissing" sound is caused bij de expanding gass over the expansion valve (expansion needs energy and this is why the system is able to cool the air). |

From my point of view the noise of de A/C sucks big time but it's not so much to do about this. Just cheking from time to time the fluides, the radiator and...try to put some loud music . Anyway it's better than nothing

Don't worry about the grinder sound. It does the same to some more expensive cars.
If the A/C makes it cool, then step the gas and don't worry about it. This noise is made at high temperatures (above 30 Celsius usually). @gxg86 When you press the A/C button (first turn on the ventilation system), you should hear only one click (usually the rpm changes a little bit when your car is stopped, but the engine running). If the A/C goes on and off a few times when you try to start it maybe there is a problem with it. You should go to service to check it out. |

The temperatures have been around (and over) 40 deg. C these days in Serbia, and probably in the whole southern Europe! Boy am I glad I have an AC in my Logan (and Stu, you would be glad to, I'm certain!), and I don't care if it clicks, grinds, squeals, or whatever sound it makes, it may even bark if you ask me , I wouldn't mind as long as it does what it is supposed to do - keep me cool! And I can not tell enough how useful it was in the ever scorching hot Podgorica valley, when I was traveling to and from my vacation some month ago!
Yes, it is loud, but it is only noticeable when the outside temperatures are well over 35 deg. C, which means that temperature inside the car may reach even 50 deg., and over, so I suppose that the AC compressor is pushed to it's limits under such conditions. Not to mention that it is a budget Dacia, not a Mercedes or BMW or Volvo! Isn’t it good enough just that we can have it at all for less then 10000 EUR?! Recently I had an opportunity to drive in a new Fiat Grande Punto and to compare it's behavior to Logan's. I noticed that the noise from the engine was less loud than in Logan (especially if taken into account that it runs at higher revs than Logan), so it can be concluded that Logan has worse sound insulation between the passenger space and the engine, which is probably why it's AC can be heard so loud in the cabin. But, I can also tell you that the noise of the wind and rolling tires was louder in Punto than in Logan! |

we have almost 20 logans in our fleet (10 of our own, one personal, 9 with a sister company), most of the 1.4 MPIs, and ALL of them have
the same RRRRRR sound and the clicking of the aircon at high (34++ C) temperatures. and as i have now heard the same from so many people, i guess it is really nothing to worry about. when the aircon kicks in and out, shortly after starting, there is also a noticeable loss of power on the engine, more on the 1.4 then on the others. but this again is logical, as the aircon needs some 5+ horsepowers for a few seconds during start (going back to 2 during normal operation), so however noticeable and unpleasant, also totally normal and not to be worried about. greetings - heinz - |

Few days ago someone stole mine radio-antenna. I got so pissed......because I had to go to Subotica to buy another one, there are no available in Novi Sad. And it costs 945 RSD But, something good happened then I asked in AK Vidakovic about RRRR AC and they told me to come in the morning, they are familiar with that problem and it can be easily solved. So I came next morning, guys did something with it, but haven't revealed secret to me, and there is no more RRRR sound I think that they mentioned that problem was in the AC clutch, not oil levels etc.......Repair took some 15 minutes, and I paid NOTHING for that, although I have warranty no more
Maybe this sound like commercial, but I'm very very pleased with those guys from AK Vidakovic Subotica |

Try an antenna from Peugeot Partner. The thread of the bolt is identical. The Peugeot Partner antenna is cheaper (at least here in Romania).

Try to tighten the antenna using pliers or a wrench if it has a nut head. So they can't take it using their bare hands.
Can you describe what they did to your A/C clutch? Did they use any components or they just adjusted something there? |

I really wanted to stay there and watch what guys are doing with it, but they were polite and asked me to be in waiting room, so I haven't seen what they did........I suppose they used no spare parts and all they did was some fine tuning in the AC clutch. Also I saw that funny machine for refrigerant filling near my car, but can't say if they used it.....Anyway servicers are supposed to exchange informations right?
I bought antenna for LGN, and it is right now on back seat of my car just in case......these days I'll for sure tighten it so nobody can remove it again.....ever |

We also had such "wonder repairs" on our AC here in Romania . It will only last for a couple of days, then the RRRR sound wil come back again as mighty as ever.
They just adjusted the fluids, nothing more. This post has been edited by prody: 16 Aug 2007, 21:04 |

A lot of Logan owners here in Romania have that RRRRRR sound from the air condoning when it's hot outside. Dacia dealer told me that it is ok and there is no reason to worry but for me it seems like a design problem.. I've never encounter any other car to behave like this. I'm wondering if all of those AC compresor will fail in 2 years, let;s say so, what Dacia will tell? "Don't worry, it's normal! "
