Dior Vernis Safari Beige 219 (Beige Safari, Nude …

When Dior revamped their Vernis line late last year, they not only redesigned their brushes, but also reformulated and renamed some of their permanent shades. One of them is Safari Beige, formerly Nude Chic. To perhaps bring about more attention to this often overlooked nude in today’s?nail polish trend?where bright and wild colors are in vogue, Dior has re-promoted this polish alongside?Tuxedo and Blue Denim in the Blue Tie collection.

Safari Beige is a cool-toned nude with a strong pink undertone. Typical of Dior’s solid colors, it has silver micro-shimmer that is not visible unless scrutinized (and I mean it) under bright light. I imagine those with pale, pink-tinged hands could achieve the trendy “mannequin hands” with Safari Beige, where nude polish close to your own skin tone is worn. Cool-toned complexions (who look best in pastel shades, silver tones, blue undertones, etc.) will enjoy this more; you can see that it somewhat clashes with my very yellow, warm-toned skin.
Its consistency is a semi-opaque jelly. It applied sheerly and unevenly on the first coat, which is typical for this formula. I’m wearing 3 coats in these swatches, but I was able to get away with 2 careful coats on the other/right hand.

International makeup artist Lisa Eldridge?(love her!) has recently posted a video of?Sophy Robson, the nail professional to many glamorous ads and runway shows of major fashion houses, giving her a colored French manicure using a nude beige and dark navy.

Now, they do emphasize that the shape of the nails (in an oval, gentle V) and not the colors themselves are what make The New French so modern and chic. This must make my square-shaped nails old-fashioned, but nonetheless, I tried the the “the old French” on my nails using a similar color scheme in Safari Beige and Tuxedo.

You can see even more clearly here that Safari Beige is a cool-toned pink-beige that looks nearly mauve against my warm-toned skin.
If you don’t already own a nude polish, I recommend Safari Beige for those who are cool-toned. Although it may not be as exciting as brightly colored nails, it is an always appropriate shade for more professional settings, is classy and sophisticated, and can be incorporated into a fun, modern manicure, such as The New French.
Safari Beige is part of the permanent Vernis line and retails for USD $22 on Dior.com, department store counters, and Dior beauty boutiques.
P.S. I’ve always sported square nails (they’re easy to shape!) but I’m now curious about those oval, V-shaped nails. Do you like them? What is your preferred nail shape?

Sometimes mixing it up with nude colors can be a pleasant surprise. I love the way this looks with the Tuxedo tips!
As for nail shape… I love the way square nails look, both short and long. They’re difficult for me to maintain since I always end up banging my nails on one thing or another.

I agree! Nudes are a nice change from brights and bolds. You really have oval nail-shaping down to a science. It’s easier for me to file straight across than to file into an even oval!

I love this shade! Especially with the pinkish undertone, I might even pick a similar colour for my next manicure. I’m conservative with nail colours so I feel comfortable sporting this around town.
Hmm, nail shape. I prefer the oval (natural?) shape. Mostly this is because I play a lot of Ultimate frisbee and so this sport totally limits anything that’s impractical on throwing a good disc around. Keeping nails short and sweet makes my life a lot easier on the field. And second, I’m lazy to do anything about filing.

Hi Vivy! I can definitely see this as your kind of color. Would you consider trying out louder shades? I think they look especially good on shorter nails. Thanks for reading and leaving me a comment!

Do you mean louder as in brighter?
The other day I ended up with a very soft pink colour on my nails. On the bottle it looked so pretty and I was in a hurry to try it on. Boy, it resulted as bright neon pink on my nails – I am not a fan. I’m not sure if it was my skin tone that was clashing or just my dislike of the brightness.
I decided to go back to a standard favourite: grey/purple. http://deathbypolish.wordpress.com/2011/02/14/essie-chinchilly/ I definitely love the cooler tones. Another favourite is a “dusty lavendar” http://nailspotting.blogspot.com/2010/09/essie-merino-cool.html I think when it gets cooler in the fall, I’m leaning towards darker colours like burgundy/wine
What do you recommend?

I’m envious you can pull off Merino Cool. It’s a lovely color, but my skin is too warm-toned and it doesn’t suit me. Are you set on Essie? Have you checked out their new Brand New Bag collection for fall?

I remember some fashion magazine recommends that the shape of the tip should resemble the curvature of the nail bed. However you have such symmetrical nail bed and parallel edges, you can go with either square or oval shapes. V-shape or pointy nails remind me of evil witches from fairy tales. ~_~

I think nails are a lot like eyebrows in that if you stray too far away from your natural shape, you end up looking strange. Your evil witches comment made me laugh! Those extra pointy long nails that celebrities were sporting are a little too intimidating.

Your hands are so sophisticated looking! I would never have that patience for this. But I love, love the color of Safari Beige

Thank you for reading and leaving me a sweet comment, Jenn! It was quick and easy to do since I “cheated” and used a French manicure tape/guide.
