Jodelle Ferland is only 15, but she’s already well-versed in covert operations.

The actress, who has been in front of the cameras since she was 2, won a role in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” As Bree, she’s been turned into a vampire to become part of a new army whose mission is to murder Bella Swan, the mortal beloved of vampire Edward Cullen.

Just before filming began last year, Ferland found out her character would come to play a major role in Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling saga.

That’s because Meyer had written “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner,” a biography of a minor character in the series. The first spinoff from the “Twilight” quartet of novels was published earlier this month.

“Initially, I only knew as much as it said in the book ‘Eclipse,’ ” Ferland said last week while on location for a new movie, “Mighty Fine.”

Then she was told about the upcoming Bree book.

“First, I had to sign something that I was sworn to secrecy.

“Second, I had to read it while someone was present.

“Third, when I finished reading it they destroyed the copy. We were filming on location in a forest in Vancouver somewhere. We couldn’t use a shredder so we got a bucket and burned it.”

What did Ferland discover?

“Well, Bree was 15 when she became a vampire. She’d run away from home because she had no mother and her father was abusive. She was pretty much starving. Riley (played by Xavier Samuel) finds her and offers to get her something to eat. Then without any kind of warning he turns her into a vampire.”

Ferland added, “Bree is suffering quite a bit. She’s become a vampire and doesn’t know why and she knows Riley wants her to do something and never understands what is happening to her. It’s pretty sad.”

(“The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” opens Wednesday.)
