The company that owns one of the state’s largest pistachio operations has bought more than 1,000 acres of farmland in Yolo County.

Public records show that a buyer with an address connected to Setton International Foods Inc. recently bought three parcels of land in rural Yolo County for $18.5 million.

According to data from county assessor records, the three adjoining parcels add up to 1,017 acres. The land is west of Woodland along Highway 16, near where it intersects with Interstate 505 in the town of Madison.

Setton International is a Commack, New York-based seller of nut and dried fruit products. Its affiliate company, Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc., is based in California and owns a 500,000-square-foot pistachio processing and storage facility in Tulare County, and claims to be one of the largest growers and processors of pistachios in the country.

In an email, Setton General Manager Lee Cohen confirmed the company was the buyer of the Yolo County farmland. He said there are no development plans, and that the acreage will likely be used to grow row crops and be leased by local operators.
