Red-billed leiothrix (Leiothrix lutea)

The red-billed leiothrix, often known as the Chinese hill robin, is an attractive and common cage bird. This gregarious bird is quite vocal and may frequently be heard "scolding" human trespassers before they are aware one is close. They consume fruit and aid in seed dispersal across the forest. They attain a maximum length of around 5 inches and are a green and yellow bird recognized by their name-sake red beak.

The red-billed leiothrix is named for its distinctive red beak. It has a drab olive-green body, an orangish-yellow neck, a yellow ring around its eyes, and a forked tail. Males may be differentiated from females by their brighter coloring and red wing patterns. These birds congregate in small groups in forest underbrush, where they eat on fruit and insects prevalent in this habitat. Breeding pairs use leaves and moss to construct cup-shaped nests.
