Viva la muerte – Brian M Viveros

I don’t really have a tonne to say on Brian M Viveros. I love his work, the realistic and high pigment colour that he uses to paint doe eyed women makes the work pop off the page.

While there is no doubt that the women he paints are beautiful, they essentially come across as damaged, beautiful in a masculine stance. I think every piece of have seen painted by Viveros, the women is smoking in a way that reminds me of Hannibal from “The A Team”.

Many of the images Viveros creates show women in some form of battle outfit, from army, to boxer to matador. Even this piece is a little reminiscent of using the skull as protection, a look that could kill hidden beneath the ornately decorated symbol of death. All of his paintings are highly sexual, and are instantly recognisable as a Viveros piece as he work is becoming more and more iconic.

I really like how the introduction of the rose on the skull on the women’s head is replicated within her tattoo, red roses depicting love and passion, which is juxtaposed against then body language and almost ambivalent look on then girls face.

If you want to see more of Viveros’ work, you can see it here
