Elle Fanning will make her Broadway debut in the upcoming production of “Appropriate,” a darkly comic family drama from Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. The show is directed by Lila Neugebauer, the director of the acclaimed 2018 revival of “The Waverly Gallery.” Fanning, best known for her work on Hulu’s “The Great” and “Super 8,” joins a previously announced ensemble that includes Natalie Gold, Alyssa Emily Marvin, Sarah Paulson and Corey Stoll.

Jenkins is an Obie Award-winning playwright whose credits include “An Octoroon” and “Gloria.” “Appropriate” follows the Lafayette family as it returns to their late patriarch’s Arkansas home to deal with the remains of his estate. Toni (Paulson), the eldest daughter, wants to remember and honor their late father, while Bo (Stoll), her brother, hopes to recoup the money he spent caring for his ailing dad. The appearance of an estranged brother, Franz, throws their plans into disarray.

Fanning was nominated for an Emmy for her work on “The Great.” Other credits include “Maleficent,”  “Somewhere,” directed by Sofia Coppola, and “20th Century Women,” directed by Mike Mills. Fanning will next star in James Mangold’s “A Complete Unknown,” a biopic with Timothée Chalamet playing Bob Dylan.
