This UNESCO listed former silver mining town near Prague houses two of the Czech Republic's most striking monuments - one beautiful, the other macabre. Stunning, ghoulish UNESCO-listed monuments just outside Prague
Word to the wise: A shuttle mini-bus running between Kutna Hora Station, St Barbara's and Sedlec Ossuary, costing CZK 35, is the easiest way to see the town.
Meanwhile on the outside of town lurks a beauty of a stranger type. The Sedlec Ossuary is a small catholic chapel, where centuries' worth of skeletons were used to embellish the building's interior itself back in 1870. With skulls and bones fashioned into hanging garlands, coats of arms and even chandeliers, Sedlec isn't for the fainthearted. It nonetheless has a ghoulish poignancy to it that makes it fascinating to visit.
Kutna Hora is easy to get to, with fast trains running regularly from Prague's main station that take 50 minutes.
