Michelle Monaghan Proves Monochromatic Makeup is a Must

Neutral never looked so pretty.

Quite often we find ourselves loving the idea of a natural makeup look, but then once we actually see it—or better yet, try it out for ourselves—we’re left with a washed out, rather blah look. Neutral eyeshadow? Fine. Flushed cheeks? Alright. Fleshy lips? Meh. The overall look becomes less about natural beauty and more of a monochromatic failure. But thanks to Michelle Monaghan, we’re reconsidering the single-toned makeup look. The actress stepped out on the red carpet last night wearing not only a truly lovely natural makeup look, but one that’s making us seriously reconsider the less-is-more concept.

Monaghan made this nude-toned look work because she chose neutral makeup with just a hint of pink undertones. Her rose gold shadow was just subtle enough to be considered neutral but just saturated enough to pack a punch. And by swiping it out into a winged look, Monaghan highlighted her strong brows. Next, for her cheeks, instead of opting for a bold rouge or dark bronze, the starlet stuck to a barely-there pink hue, which brought out the rosy undertones of her lids.

Lastly, for the lips, instead of a been-there-done-that matte nude, Monaghan wore a hint of a natural fleshy lip gloss. The result? A pout that looks flawlessly natural yet entirely red carpet appropriate.

No word yet on the exact products used to create this monochrome marvel, so in the meantime we’re mimicking the look with Tarte Tartelette Tease ($21, sephora.com) palette, which boasts a series of natural shades that can be blended to make a more neutral—or more bold—look. We’re also loving Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder ($38, sephora.com) for just a hint of natural pink on the cheeks and lastly a swipe of Nivea A Kiss of Shimmer Radiant Lip Care ($3, ulta.com) on the lips is ideal for everyday wear.
