Problem and Hypothesis
This lab report will guide you through conductors and insulators. The problem is which materials will make good conductors. In my hypothesis, if I put something metal in the circuit, then the current will flow and the light bulb will light. To summarize;it tells you about the problem and hypothesis for conductors and insulators.

Materials
You will need to gather lots of materials for this lab report.

  1. Select a Battery and a Battery Holder.
  2. Grab a few Wires and go ahead and get a few more.
  3. Grab a Light Bulb and maybe one more in case you need it.
  4. A Light Bulb Holder.
  5. Gather a Plastic and Paper Cup.
  6. An Eraser.
  7. Grab a piece of Aluminum Foil.
  8. Get a Popsicle Stick.
  9. Find a Q-Tip End.
  10. A Penny.
  11. Get a Pipe Cleaner.
  12. A Foam Plate
  13. Now finally, a pencil and paper.

Procedure
This section will show you the procedure.

  1. Gather all the materials you need (I.e wires,a q-tip end).
  2. Put the battery in the battery holder with the flat end touching the spring until it clicks into place.
  3. Connect two wires on each end on the holder where the clips are (make sure they are in the clips).
  4. Take a light bulb and put it in the light bulb holder facing the glass upward.
  5. Take one wire on the battery holder and put it on one of the clips on the light bulb holder.
  6. Take a wire and clip it to the other clip on the light bulb holder.
  7. Take one of the following materials and conduct a trial for each item:
    1 plastic and paper cup,
    2 paper clip
    3 an eraser,
    4 foam plate
    5 aluminum foil,
    6 popsicle stick,
    7 q-tip end,
    8 a penny,
    9 pipe cleaner,
10 pencil lead (use the tip of your pencil).
    11 paper
  8. Put the material in between the two wires and do the same with the rest, also every time record your data on the paper as conductor or insulator.

Results
If the bulb was off that means the material is an insulator. If not, it means the material is a conductor.

  1. In trial one, the plastic and paper cups are insulators.
  2. In trial two the paper clip is a conductor.
  3. In trial three, the eraser is an insulator.
  4. In trial four, the foam plate is also an insulator.
  5. In trial five, the aluminum foil is a conductor.
  6. In trial six, the popsicle stick is an insulator.
  7. In trial seven, the q-tip is an insulator.
  8. In trial eight, the penny is a conductor.
  9. In trial nine, the pipe cleaner is an insulator.
  10. In trial ten, the pencil is a conductor.
  11. Now finally, the paper is an insulator.

Overall, there were eleven trials. There were four conductors and seven insulators.

Conclusion
Throughout this experiment I noticed that most of the metals allowed the flow of electricity in the circuit. I also noticed that most non-metals did not allow the flow of electricity through the circuit. Alongside that, even if you make a chain of paper clips, it will still allow the flow of electricity though the circuit. Now, try mixing different materials and changing the circuit.

In summary: conductors allow the flow of electricity through the circuit and insulators don’t.

How it Works
How do conductors, insulators, and circuits work?
The conductors work by letting the flow of electricity pass through the circuit. The insulators will not let any electricity pass through the circuit.

What is electricity?
Electricity is made up of microscopic particles called electrons. Electrons have a negative charge, so they attract protons that have a positive charge. There are also neutrons that have a neutral charge.

How do circuits work?
Circuits work by metal wires, sometimes with plastic or rubber insulation on it so no electricity come out. They let electrons flow through the circuit to the negative end of the battery.
