Ex-Inter goalkeeper Walter Zenga has been discussing Antonio Conte’s dramatic departure from the club last month, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media today.

Whilst speaking in an interview with Libero, Walter Zenga showed that he was not very impressed with Antonio Conte’s decision to leave the club immediately after winning the Scudetto for the first time in 11 years. He believes that he ran away from the financial problems facing the Nerazzurri.

“It can do two things: decide to get out of the way or deal with problems. I have never avoided problems and, I’ll tell you, I have always taken it in that place. If you don’t get off the boat then you pay the consequences.”

Walter Zenga then decided to explain to Antonio Conte that he should have accepted the situation and tried to do his best with the squad at his disposal because things do not always go perfectly in football.

“I say, you just won the championship, everyone loves you. Organize a nice conference with the club where you tell it as it is and it goes on together. Believe me, no Inter fan would have said anything, indeed they would have doubled their attachment.”

Finally, the former Cagliari and Venezia coach made it clear that despite being in the running for the Inter hot seat in the past, he did not expect or want to receive a call from Beppe Marotta this time round.

“No, this time I didn’t hope for it, and anyway Simone Inzaghi is an excellent choice.”
