A turbine blade has fallen from a machine at the 160MW Odal wind farm in Norway.

The array owner, Odal Vind, reported that on the evening of Wednesday 10 April there was a “serious incident” at the wind farm and has closed the entire site “pending further investigations”.

Odal said its main focus is “the safety of those who work and stay in the wind farm and fortunately no people were around when this happened”.

Emergency staff were deployed on Wednesday evening and Odal Vind informed the municipality, authorities, police and other agencies in accordance with its procedures.

The wind farm owner stated it is “following the case closely and are now doing our utmost to get an overview of the damage and the cause”.

Siemens Gamesa has been contacted for comment.

Last month manufacturing defects in several Siemens Gamesa turbine blades at the Odal wind farm caused the site to be partially shut down, according to Odal Vind.

The developer reported that 13 out of the wind farm’s 34 SG 5.0-145 units are out of service due to the issue, while a further two machines are also not operating “due to other errors/damage that are being rectified”.
